When I was a kid, through my teenage years, my parents qualified for food stamps. They refused to even entertain the notion of getting a handout. We ate alot of pb&j sandwiches, cold cereal, rice, beans, cheaper cuts of meat (not at all palatable unless slow cooked), and we never went out for fast food or to a sit down restaurant. Instead of sodas we drank Koolaid and water.
By golly, we survived just fine AND we didn't get fat, or malnourished. Amazing what a teensy little bit of ingenuity will do for stretching the budget. It never ceases to amaze me what people think they need, or they are poor. TVs, computers, cell phones.

A few weeks ago I stood behind two very overweight women with a shopping cart piled with cases of soda, chips, pastries, cookies, etc. Didn't see any good, economical food in it. One pulled out her trusty taxpayer funded EBT card.

It seems to me that what's truly lacking in many of the welfare recipients in this country is a sense of self worth and pride. The government sure as heck doesn't encourage those feelings, not with a scumbag like Obama in the White House and all the Dems running around whipping up false grievances against anyone who isn't in the bottom of the bucket with the rest of the crabs/Dem pity party members. In fact, the Dem party SHOULD rename itself the Pity Party.
