4 years ago my grandmother was slowly dying, she had survived breast cancer, throat cancer, and even a stroke, but by 95 years old her body was beginning to shut down.



My Grandmother worked for 31 years as a Teacher. she raised 3 children on $4,000 a year. her husband was murdered in the 1940's for trying to get blacks in the union in New york. She was pregnant with her 3rd child at the time of her husbands death. She went to college during the great depression years at Hampton Institute. So when her husband died she moved back home to her mothers and got a job teaching at the All black highschool in our hometown.



I have to give her bio so everyone knows she did her part for this country, she worked hard she raised her kids, and when she got older she should have be been taken care of.



well when my grandmother had her stroke, she needed to go to a nursing home DR.s Orders, for 30 days to recuperate. At the time medicare would not pay for her to stay in the Nursing Home because they had a rule. She would have had to have given up ownership of her home 2 years prior to having a stroke. In other words the only way they would pay is if she had NOTHING. fortunately i have a rich uncle on my Mother's side he got her the care she needed. As I said earlier she was slowly dying 4 years ago. So even though she survived the stroke. a few years later old age took her. The day President obama was being inaugurated we had her funeral.


1.  Medicare has covered recuperative care in nursing homes for as long as I can remember
2.  Obamacare made no changes to Medicare in this regard

Come on Heather MC, tell the truth - you weren't trying to just put Grandma in for 30 days of care - your family was trying to dump her there so that you didn't have to deal with her illness.

Stupid, lying DUmmy...but is there any other kind?

Heather MC shouldn't be thanking Obamacare...especially since it's not fully implemented...for that she should be thankful.

For IF Obamacare was fully up and running her Granny would have been shuffled off to a back bedroom of Heather MC's apartment and left to die...after it had been determined by a death panel that it wasn't economically feasible to keep her alive.

Never heard of having to sell your house to get covered by Medicare.

I call BS on this. Has she ever heard of hospice?

I agree with your BS call.  Lots of people I know have had recuperative/rehab care in the nursing home where my MIL lived, with that care having been prescribed by their physician.

Even though MIL has passed, my wife still goes to that nursing home to visit some of the (old) friends she made there, and assists getting several of them to the Sunday chapel services at the home.  Every visit she tells me of someone new she has met who is there for rehab, and will likely be there for only a short time.

Your BS call is a good one.

Back in 1998 when my mother suffered multiple strokes and could no longer be cared for at home she was put in a nursing home. At that time medicare would only cover 30 days nursing home care for stroke victims. Coverages have since changed.

The part I was referring to was selling her home before she had to get coverage.

Exactly - Medicare covers for recuperative/rehabilitative for a short time, but if long term care is needed, then Medicaid pays if you don't have assets.

This idiot has misconstrued numerous things (surprise  :whatever:) and none have anything to do with O care.

Medicare is not means tested as far as I know in any way but Medicaid is.
Administered by states and local counties they do not (at least in NY ) demand you sell all non cash assets such as property.
They will however attach a lean against said so in the long run you lose all ownership rights or value if the benefits exceed the propertys.

These fools have no idea the exact consequences the world they wish for will bring.
