Just found out. I always laughed at her jokes about her and her husband when I was a kid. Not many like her when she was working and even fewer as funny as she was now.

I was a kid when I found Phyllis Diller.  Who could ever forget the wild hair (that women pay dearly for today), the exaggerated cigarette holder, the A-frame cocktail dress, with two toothpicks in high heels serving as the legs.

Phyllis Diller was priceless.

I remember her cigarette in the cigarette holder, but I don't remember her actually smoking it. More of a prop than anything. But yeah, she was one of the greats and definitely paved the way for women comediennes - but keep that skank Joan Rivers out of the conversation.

Phyllis was also a concert pianist who played with orchestras all over the world.  I think she would wants us to remember that part of her too.  She was a true musician.

I know.  It's like the Summer of 2012 has been a deadly clearinghouse for our more elderly in the entertainment field.  Betty White should not buy any green bananas.

R.I.P Phyllis. That is number two. Who is next? Please don't let it be Clint Eastwood!

On another note: Rosie O'donnel suffered a heart attack last week. I thought you needed to have a heart first?

Everyone gives Rosie, and Roseanne credit for being such trailblazers for women in comedy. Phyllis, and Lucy get completely overlooked. RIP Phyllis.

A regular with Bob Hope, and Martha Raye, on USO tours.
Thanks for the laughs, Phyllis.

I'd suggest that Gracie Allen was the original female comedienne. Had a helluva career, especially with hubby George Burns.

More of a woman who was a good "straightman" I would think.

Not really - though she made an attempt to do that in the early part of their career. It was George who was the straight man to ditzy Gracie. She got a lot of laughs that way.

What I miss the most about the old comedians is that they didn't have to make every other word a cuss word to be funny.

Bill Cosby is big on no cursing. And he's a funny guy.

He may not be as old as Phyllis Diller, but he is closer in style to the old ones than what passes for comedy today.

I still think his Noah bit was hilarious.

You know there's something wrong with a woman, if John Wayne wanted nothing to do with her.

She wasn't.  My MIL was a "Harvey-girl" up at the el Tovar hotel on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, in her yute.  She had to deal with many people there, Lucille and John Wayne being just two.  John was a perfect gentlemen, and he wouldn't have crossed a street to piss on Lucille's back if she was on fire.

John Wayne was a true American, a true Patriot, and a true Gentleman. He is also one of my heroes. God Bless him.

Now I want to watch some of his movies (Especially Rio Bravo, and Eldorado) ....
