Romney and Ryan disagree with Akin rape remark, says campaign
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:48:53 PM »
A spokeswoman for Mitt Romney wrote late Sunday that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee and his running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, did not share Rep. Todd Akin's sentiments on rape.

"Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan disagree with Mr. Akin's statement, and a Romney-Ryan administration would not oppose abortion in instances of rape," Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg wrote.

Earlier Sunday, Akin said he "misspoke" when he claimed "legitimate rape" rarely resulted in pregnancy.

Answering a question about whether or not he thought abortion should be legal in the case of rape, Akin explained his opposition by citing unnamed bodily responses he said prevented pregnancy.

"First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare," Akin said of rape-induced pregnancy in an interview with KTVI. A clip of the interview was posted online by the liberal super PAC American Bridge.

Oh, whoop-de-do.

So an (R) candidate made a flub, a stupid remark.

Excresence happens; there's going to be those in this campaign--and thus far there's been far more stupid remarks made by candidates of the other party.  Joe Bidet is the champion of stupid comments, and Barack Milhous isn't a piker himself.

And one recalls Vast Teddy's stupid hate-filled comments about Robert Bork, circa 1990.

We'll get over it, and we have a lot less to "get over" than the other side does.

How's things in Franklin Roosevelt's hometown, by the way?

Less than 3% of the million+/- abortions performed annually in the USA are the result of rape.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

I have to keep faith with franksolich. But I would add pregnancy by rape is a colossal lib red herring.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Todd Akin made an incredibly stupid remark.

It is indefensible and if he has any sense at all he would immediately withdraw.

You can't rehabilitate stupid like that.

I saw the DUmmies were going to try to use this as an issue and claim that Romney and Ryan are okay with abortions for rapes to try to dissuade their conservative family members for voting for them.  :mental:

Just remember folks 0bama voted to allow the killing of babies who survived the abortion procedure.

This has nothing to do with Obama, Romney or Ryan.

This is singularly about Aikn.

I would pull the lever for the D rather then Akin.

I simply would not countenance that kind of ignorance.

I wouldn't go that far.  I would simply not vote.

I think Biden is laughing his ass of today because of this Akin comment.  Because you know if a RAt had said this it would be barely in the MSM news cycle.

Anyone remember the noise from the left when Whoopy Goldberg sort of defended Roman Polanski by questioning whether it was rape -rape .  Yeah, me neither.

I know it's off topic, but it does demonstrate the left's hypocrisy

Yes, I remember that well. Allegedly all the women on the view are feminists. Not a peep. The double standard was deafening.

It very well could.

It was being reported today that the GOP is cutting his funding. I agree with them, Akins is a tool and needs to check facts before opening his mouth. A gaffe that stupid could ruin it for the whole party.

With a gaffe that bad he needs to consider putting a D behind his name.

For sure. That was probably one of the most stupid things I have ever heard a Republican say. Wow ...

In the words of Andrew Breitbart: "So?"

Maybe it is because I do not live in Missouri and maybe I am missing some hidden policy threat implied within the idiotic statement.

Is the press going to try to tar the entire GOP with it? Yes. But only because the GOP usually caves to this sort of thing.

Should Akin drop out? I have no idea

The Democrats have Gaffzilla and Mecha Gaffzilla on the same ticket. Every time a GOP gaff comes up, whoever is being interviewed should have a back catalog at their fingertips.

If Akin has to go, he has to go. But nobody who isn't Akin has to roll over and be tarred with guilt by party affiliation.

The biggest problem is that the Obama Regime will try and tie Akin to Romney/Ryan.  The left is always looking for new mud to sling, because not much is sticking this time.

Yep. But one of the reasons is because it works.

What Akin said was incredibly stupid but until the Republicans stand up to the media while it attempts to slime them, it will continue.

This is just as stupid as the left trying to tar Ryan with Ayn Rand.
