I graduated in 1963, had just turned 17. 2 or 3 of the rich kids found a new car in the parking lot the night of graduation. I knew there wouldn't be one there for me but daddy had said that if I graduated we'd see about getting me a car. The night of graduation, I asked him if I was going to get that car. He asked, "How much money you got saved up." I told him how much I had and his response was, "You can get a pretty car with that." No, "I'll match it" or "We'll go shopping for a new one tomorrow." Nope, just "YOU can get a pretty good car with that."
Well, I bought a one owner, low mileage '57 FORD....then he asked if I had insurance on it. I told him I was planning on putting it on his, OH NO. I had to find an insurance company that would insure a 17 year old boy. That was State Farm and I've had almost all my insurance with them for over 50 years.
