I know what you are saying is true about conservatives claiming exclusive rights to Christianity (and their twisted view of it), but I do not understand the context. How does the pic of Gabby Douglas or her religious outpourings translate into an attack on liberals?

Conservatives did not "lay claim" to Christianity.  Democrats relinquish their right to be called Christians when they put killing children ahead of all else.

Who is it that often portrays Christians as myopic, superstitious, and incapable of being educated? It isn't conservatives.

There's plenty of room left of center for Christian values. The problem is that the left has veered into uncharted radical waters.
