Next from the EPA: Four-Gallon-Minimum Gas PurchasesThe Environmental Protection Agency is going to require all consumers to buy at least four gallons of gasoline from certain gas pumps after the new E15 ethanol-gasoline blend is introduced into the market. The new regulation was revealed in an Aug. 1 letter to the American Motorcyclist Association, which expressed concern that the vast majority of motorcycles and ATVs in use today aren’t designed to operate on E15 fuel and residual fuel from a pump that serves multiple blends might harm these tanks. “The use of E15 will lower fuel efficiency and possibly cause premature engine failure,†Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations, wrote in a June 20 letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. “Use of E15 fuel voids many manufacturer warranties. In off-road engines, the effects can even be dangerous for users.†The EPA responded that it requires that retail stations with blender pumps either dispense E15 from a dedicated hose and nozzle if able or, in the case of E15 and E10 being dispensed from the same hose, require that at least four gallons of fuel be purchased to prevent vehicles and engines with smaller fuel tanks from being exposed to gasoline-ethanol blended fuels containing greater than 10 percent ethanol. This minimum mandate attempts to dilute residual amounts of E15 that will be left in the shared hose.
With the drought livestock farmers are pressuring the ethanol producers to divert more crops to feed.
Our crops should go 100% to feed and to human food. Period. Ethanol is a scam of major proportions.AND: Motorcycles don't even hold more than 4 gallons. How would it be enforced?
Honest....I just the other morning saw a couple of people put $2 worth of gas in their car to get to work. That's just a shade over a 1/2 gallon....what about the poor Obama? Are we now going to subsidize gasoline for the poor?
I remember doing that when gas was $0.28/gallon. (Am I dating myself? )
What about portable gas cans? All of mine are 1-2 gallons. Am I supposed to buy new ones?
How are they going to enforce it? What happens if I just hang up the nozzle after only a couple gallons?
Sort of like Obamacare. You will be fined for noncompliance.
Anyone who doesn't comply with the 4 gallon law is probably a speeder as well. I don't care if you are filling your weedeater.
Some bikes - actually only a few - have tanks 4 or more gallons.Mine holds an even 5 gallons. Larger bikes, like the Gold Wing, hold 6, IIRC.
Make sure you speed all the way to the pump in a most wasteful ostentatious manner so as to arrive at the pump with a bone dry tank.
This minimum mandate attempts to dilute residual amounts of E15 that will be left in the shared hose.
I read all this stuff about gas with ethanol added and all I can think is "Thank god we don't have to put up with that shit here".
