Some employers and psychologists say staying away from social media is 'suspicious'

Facebook has become such a pervasive force in modern society that increasing numbers of employers, and even some psychologists, believe people who aren't on social networking sites are 'suspicious.'

The German magazine Der Taggspiegel went so far as to point out that accused theater shooter James Holmes and Norwegian mass murder Anders Behring Breivik have common ground in their lack of Facebook profiles.

On a more tangible level, Forbes.com reports that human resources departments across the country are becoming more wary of young job candidates who don't use the site.

Slate.com Advice Columnist, Emily Yoffee, wrote in an advice column that young people shouldn't date anyone who isn't on Facebook.

'If you’re of a certain age and you meet someone who you are about to go to bed with, and that person doesn’t have a Facebook page, you may be getting a false name. It could be some kind of red flag,' he says.

Not that I care about FB, but the DUmmies in this particular group obsess and fawn over their self-appointed status as if it makes them special somehow.  Yawn.

I had a facebook account.

Then I had an entire discussion thread (which was supposed to be private between me and one other person) played back via public posting.

I deleted my FB account and have no plan to return.

Keep your internet footprint as small as possible.

FB is the entry point for many if not most ID thieves.

I have a FB account that I never check.  I normally use it to check on my kids (my son deleted his before he graduated college because he said it was such a times sucker and had no value).  My FB app got screwed up and I'm not interested enough to fix it. I was getting birthday wishes (I get notifications on my iPad) and I felt bad about not saying thank you to everyone but not bad enough to spend the time fixing my app (my iTunes password is also screwed).  So I made Schade post on my FB telling everyone thank you for me and letting everyone know my FB is screwed. I probably could have figured it out in the time it took me to post this...I'm just not interested.

LinkedIn is somewhat useful. Facebook and Twitter OTOH I have no use for, just too much fluff not enough substance. :banghead:

I post mostly political and humorous things.

I know a few people my age or younger that don't even have computers, let alone Facebook or other social networking sites.

I do like Twitter, but you can read that in short bursts. Usually I just check Twitchy so see whats going on politically. But Pinterest...there's just so much to see there. The decorating and craft ideas are so wonderful.

Just to show I was not a psychopath, I just sent friend requests to 30 random people, "liked" 50 pages + 70 inane statuses + 48 pictures. Started 2 political fights with liberal family members, stalked 2 former boyfriends.... ah.... sanity......  :-)

I do have an account, I mostly use it to chase around people who owe me money - and the missus has taken to using my account to play games with her actual account. I get the impression that one can advance faster if working with partners in them. I really don't know for sure, as I have never played any of the *Ville games.

I'm slowly weaning myself off FB and will likely delete my account in the not-too-distant future.

It's of little significant use, aside from figuring out how much time my "friends" have on their hands based on the stupid ****ing "requests" for games and apps that clog up my page, which on the phone app doesn't even appear in a semi-coherent timeline.
