Actually, I'd contest this assertion.  Their propaganda scores high with the mind-numbed idiots who have always been their base, but in order to keep that base appeased they have had to put out wilder and wilder - and less reality-based - assertions about their opponents, and I think they've crossed a line with the squishy moderates in which the obvious bullshit is no longer palatable.
