Come on over Shep. The water's just fine

Shep Smith 'On Thin Ice' For Outspokenness, Former Fox News Employee Says

Could Shep Smith's constant independence be getting him into trouble with his Fox News bosses?

The host is well-known for his propensity to say whatever he wants. He's called the killing of Osama bin Laden "illegal," come out forcefully for gay marriage, challenged his own network's coverage of controversial events, and generally done things his way. Sometimes it seems he's operating on a television planet of his own. And he's been rewarded with high ratings and a contract that takes him through at least 2013. He's called Fox News CEO Roger Ailes a "second father" to him. All, it would seem, is well.

But in an article about Fox News' relationships to gay rights, a former Fox News employee said that, despite the public comity, Smith's iconoclasm is starting to grate, especially his comments that Republicans were on the "wrong side of history" with gay marriage and that Chick-fil-A was promoting "intolerance.":

"Shep is on really thin ice," the former employee said. "If he wasn't so popular and highly rated (and highly paid) Roger would have yanked him off the air months ago."

The allegation would go against the more typical theory about Smith's presence at the network: that his independent streak is promoted because it helps deflect the persistent view of Fox News as a right-wing outlet.

Put him on MSNBC next to Rachael Maddow - if Shep can't make her look more masculine, nothing can.

It just goes to show how reich wing and controlled by the repiglicans that Faux Snooze is that they don't offer contracts to moonbats like Geraldo Rivera and so light in the loafers that he doesn't really touch the ground Shep Smith.

Seriously, DUmmies.  If Fox News was everything you claim, Alan Colmes would never have gotten hired.  Even that loudmouth O'reilley wouldn't be on there.

If Shep is on thin ice it is for being a stupid, intolerant liberal with a lack of insight.

I still think it was unneccesary of Fox to institute this kind of "balance". Was it too much to ask to have one entire network epousing the conservative viewpoint, when every other network, cable news channel, and even public radio (supported by our tax dollars too!) spouts the left's viewpoint from a to b? It's one reason I stopped watching Fox some years back, if I wanted to hear swivel-eyed lefty drivel, I could throw a dart at a TV guide and hit one of their channels. Plus Fox has gotten somewhat tabloidish.

the water over in the shallow end that the DUmpmonkies inhabit is very yellow.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
