Dems failed to block Clayton from ballot

The Tennessee Democratic Party missed a chance to keep controversial candidate Mark Clayton off the Democratic primary ballot for the U.S. Senate race earlier this year, the state's elections coordinator said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a party official said Democrats would revamp their candidate vetting process in the wake of Clayton’s stunning victory last week, and the candidate himself told reporters that he wants President Barack Obama to "come back home" and drop his support of gay marriage.

Clayton, who works for a moving company, won the Democrats’ Senate primary by a wide margin on Thursday, despite a set of socially conservative and libertarian beliefs that put him outside the mainstream of the party. A day later, the party disavowed his candidacy. It said he was part of an anti-gay hate group and hadn’t voted in Democratic primaries except when he was running. The party urged Democratic voters to write in anyone else’s name on the ballot in November.

I don't know if they had any chance anyway but, I think we can mark that seat in on the R side.

Here is what Mike Huckabee said about Clayton:

'The people have spoken…and the Democrats say, “Shut up!” Mark Clayton won last week’s Tennessee Democratic Senate primary in a landslide. But horrors! Turns out he’s conservative. He’s even a vice president of a pro-life, pro-traditional marriage group called Public Advocate for the United States. They back other things that the Democratic leadership considers heresy, too, like faith-based initiatives, banning gay Scoutmasters, and cutting taxes. No wonder they’ve been labeled a “hate group.” Now, the state party refuses to support their own candidate’s campaign . The Democrats don’t have much hope of beating Republican Sen. Bob Corker anyway, but as long as they’re going to lose, they’d like to run a far-left liberal and flame out really big. So they’re considering legal action to try to get the courts to overturn the will of the voters. That’s become standard operating procedure for the Democrats lately, but this is a new frontier: now they’re doing it to their own primary voters.'

I read about this, Clayton won because he was at the top of the ballot. It's not surprising the democrats had no clue who they were voting for, in a heavy R state like Tenn even legitimate dem candidates can't get any money because they have no chance to win the general. Even a huge state like Texas where there are millions of democrats they aren't able to get recognition for state wide offices. In the primary the top 2 R's raised over 20 million, the top 2 D's less than 200K. This should be a lesson to all, if you don't know who is running in the race on your ballot don't vote in that race.
Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism. -Kenny Powers

I think people voting for whoever is at the top of the ballot happens a lot. Maybe that is one of the things that got obama elected.

Mark Clayton: an unconventional Democrat

Democratic Party, its Senate nominee lack common ground but are stuck with each other

The local DNC rag is starting to run puff pieces to bolster their candidate.  This should be fun to watch.
