We have rain! Sheets of it!

Wind, lightening, and rain. First real storm of the summer and lots of dry ground out there to soak it up.

5. Southeastern Iowa. We have had almost no measurable rain this summer and lots of high temps. It looks like a wasteland here. In 2008. we had so much water you couldn't give it away. Feast or famine.

16. The corn crop is in really bad shape.

A lot of farmers have turned the stalks in to silage. Many of them were seeing no ears or ears with few kernels on them.

I had a load of blackberries on the brambles this spring and was looking forward to a bumper crop but they literally cooked before they could ripen in the heat we had.

22. Unfortunately I doubt they are getting much mileage out of the silage.

The pictures I have seen are heartbreaking and the stories about next year's crop likely being just as bad is really frightening.

26. I hope we don't have another winter like last one--dry and on the warm side.

We came into the warmer seasons with no real ground moisture and the soil was much warmer than normal.

15. I've got a fine drizzle and thunder, but no downpour.

I'd even take the "red" in the weathermap just to get some rain, but it divides and goes above or below us. It has done that all summer. It's almost like we have a wall around us to keep out the rain. I doubt this one will do much for the crops. They are beyond help.

It will sure be nice to have those cooler temps for a while. It was SO humid and hot early this morning that it took my breath away, but we should drop into the 70s.

The birds are standing in and enjoying the drizzle.

17. This has been our experience this summer.

The rain either went in a line two counties to the north on the Minnesota border or further south into Missouri. It has been one miserable summer.
