Poll: Majority of voters blame president for bad economy

Two-thirds of likely voters say the weak economy is Washington’s fault, and more blame President Obama than anybody else, according to a new poll for The Hill.

It found that 66 percent believe paltry job growth and slow economic recovery is the result of bad policy. Thirty-four percent say Obama is the most to blame, followed by 23 percent who say Congress is the culprit. Twenty percent point the finger at Wall Street, and 18 percent cite former President George W. Bush.

While 64 percent of voters consider this downturn to be “much more severe” than previous contractions, barely one quarter (26 percent) say the agonizingly slow pace of the recovery was unavoidable.

The Hill poll was conducted July 9 among 1,000 likely voters, and has a 3 percentage point margin of error.

...Reflecting that key difference between "Likely" and "Registered" voters.

Normally I would have to say that good or bad, it's just an unjust political fact of life that the President gets the blame or the credit for economic movement, since that is all really in the hands of the amorphous mass of the Congress, with the President only having the power to ask them to implement policy at the start and give it an up-or-down at the end of the process.

However, in Obama's case, he uniquely and richly deserves every ounce of blame, since he made a conscious decision to collude with Reid to stall Congressional action so he could run on a 'Do-nothing Congress' in order to have a foil and to try and reverse the losses of 2010.  His runaway regulatory program has only exacerbated the disaster he is intentionally causing for selfish short-term political ends.

I'd like to see the other responses to this question.

If 26% say the slow pace of the recovery was unavoidable, it stands to reason that a majority of those polled said that the slow pace of the recovery was avoidable.

And then we get into the blame game where Barry rightfully takes the big hit, while Congress [Dingy Harry] takes 20% and a certain percentage have no clue.  :whatever:

In any event, this ain't looking good for Barry and his boys.  :-)

It doesn't matter what a liberal says about Barry, even if they say how disappointed they are in him, or how bad he is doing; they WILL STILL VOTE FOR HIM. Why? Because they are STUPID.

They won't switch, but if they are unhappy enough, they may stay home.  So, I hope they're absolutely miserable.

You and I both hope for that.
