Yeah I know what you mean but the link does bring up some questions that never occurred to me.

First, how did this kid afford all this stuff? He dropped out of school and was unemployed. However he purchased an Ar15, two Glocks, a tactical shotgun, 6000 rounds and full body armor? Bought all this gear apparently since May.

Second, how did he get body armor? I actually researched bullet proof vests awhile back on the internet and they are Law Enforcement only items. As far as I know, you can't just mail order this stuff on your own. Tear gas? Explosives? Where did he get this stuff?

It's difficult to get, not impossible to get.  I know of instances of IBA changing hands via auction/classified ad sites.  Tear gas is a little tougher but that too depends on the strength and delivery system.  Explosives, most likely homemade, a person with a bioscience degree wouldn't have any trouble finding the information and having the lab know-how to make them with relatively-common chemicals.

Was it really booby-trapped, or did he just make it look like it?  Anyone could hook up some containers, electronics, batteries with some wires and switches connected to doors and what ever, without it being dangerous.

They showed them disarming them last night on Fox News. You could hear the explosions from them. They were saying that one of the items they disarmed was a circuit board that they feel controlled the whole trap.

40+ years ago, Soldier of Fortune Magazine had instructions for how to make it from everyday items found in most kitchens. Then there's the more common methods of making explosives....Gun Cotton ....dynamite ...nitroglycerin. The only thing complicated would be some type of remote detonator....oh nevermind, just thought of a real simple one....but not for the faint hearted tho.

Don't worry y'all. I'm getting old and ugly but still plan to make a better looking corpse than some accident prone idiot bomber. ...like Bill Ayers wife.

Were the explosions from the traps or were they the explosives used by the bomb squad to disarm or detonate the traps?

I think almost anyone could come up with a remote detonator or booby trap even. At least anyone with some minimal electrical skills.

I wouldn't trust my minimal electrical skills....so my trigger would probably be more mechanical. Probably some trip wire configuration.

  With my luck, I'd rig some mercury switch rig from a cheap themostat ...and just as I pull the safety out to leave the area...an earthquake would strike and

                 BOOM!!!!

When I was a little kid I would use the old flash bulbs that worked off of the camera battery, a 9-volt battery and some wire to "remote detonate" fireworks. The "Magicube" flashbulbs worked sometimes as a grenade type trigger fore firecrackers and M-80s.
