Gays and lesbians keep pressure on Boy Scouts to let them be members

Gay and lesbian advocacy groups are continuing to keep the pressure on Boy Scouts of America, which applies a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on sexual orientation of its youth members and its adult leaders.

This morning, a press release from change.org landed in our in-box announcing that Jennifer Tyrrell, a gay mom who was removed as a den leader by the Boy Scouts of America, will deliver 300,000 petition signatures to the Boy Scouts of America’s national headquarters. The petition calls on the Scouts to reinstate her and end their policy prohibiting gay scouts and scout leaders. Jennifer will be joined by her family, including 7-year-old Cub Scout son Cruz.

Deron Smith, a Boy Scout spokesman, said this morning that that plan is puzzling because the gay and lesbian groups already presented their petition to the Boy Scouts during an annual Scout meeting in Orlando in May.

“It’s the same exact petitions as far as I know,” Smith said.

My opinion is this: The Boy Scouts are a private organization. Since such is the case, they can have any rules they want; and can decide who they want in their club, and who they don't want in their club. Because of that, any petition that was signed (Even if it was signed by 10 million people), or lawsuits that are filed, will not make them change their rules. Now, if they were a public organization. The petition and whatever law suit was filed would go somewhere and they would have to let Gays and Lesbians in.

Now, do I agree that they shouldn't allow gay and lesbians in? Well they call the 'BOY SCOUTS' for a reason. So no on the lesbians, or even girls for that matter. As for gays boys, and gay male leaders? Think of it this way, would you want your son having a gay scout leader taking him camping, or want your son being out camping with a gay scout member?

Just as I don't send my 15 year old daughter camping with a 40 year old straight man, or my 10 year old grandson out camping with a 30 year old woman, I wouldn't send either out with a homosexual of their same sex.  You just don't set your kids up that way.  It's your job to protect them, not to send them out with wolves.
