why the GOP is frantically trying to smother Obamacare in the crib

Last edited Wed Jul 11, 2012, 03:48 PM USA/ET - Edit history (2)

They know that if Obamacare makes it to full implementation in 2014 that it will become very popular and very hard to overturn.

There will be generations of voters that will hear Democrats crow about this very popular thing that got ZERO Republican votes in either house of congress.

It is similar to the early days of Social Security. The GOP tried every method they could to kill it in its infancy... The courts, congressional votes, you name it. They KNEW that if it ever got a foothold it would be supremely popular and impossible for them to get rid of.

They failed in their quest, and generations of FDR Democrats touted this "third rail" of politics and Democrats have run the House of Representatives for 66 of the past 80 years, including 40 straight from '54 to '94.

Killing Obamacare is a matter of survival for the Republican party. After 2014 there is no turning back. And they are on the record as opposing it en masse in over 30 votes.

The Demographic changes in America are threatening to wipe out the GOP. Their base is old, white, and dying off. The Democratic base is younger, browner, and growing exponentially. The voter ID laws are their way of slowing it down until they can formulate a way to win these growing groups.

Because by 2016, Obamacare will be entrenched and Democrats will have figured out how to get past voter ID roadblocks.

2012 is a critical election for the GOP. They will pull out every stop, because their survival depends on killing Obamacare before its benefits hit the masses.

Be ready.

There is a hint of truth in that, if 0bamatax goes forward and a certain segment of the population starts getting their freebies, it won't matter that those of us paying the bill don't like it, just like every other entitlement program out there any talk of killing it gets you in major trouble for daring to take away those freebies. Even some folks who don't want to pay for it will jump on the bandwagon of not wanting to take those freebies away, meanwhile pissing and moaning how they are getting shafted. I never understood that mentality, but there is a lot of it out there. This thing needs to be killed before the freebies kick in, if not it will never die no matter how damaging it will be to us.

2. I certainly agree that the GOP is in real demographic trouble...

And that this election is what can be call a crucial vote for the future of the US as we know it.

We know, for instance, that the GOP will continue to bankrupt the country through draconian tax breaks.

We also know that the GOP would make it even harder to vote in the near future.

We also know that most of their real agenda is championed by fewer and fewer people as we speak.

That is why this one, this 2012 election, is going to be the defining election for the US as we know it.

If we win, enough people that subscribe to the GOPs way of looking at things will drop out of the voting pool through natural attrition that it will be hard for them to cobble together a viable coalition of voters from here on end.

22. You are so right, this election will

either make us or break us. If Republicans get back in, the US will never be the same again. They will corrupt the SC, they will make sure that the under privileged never vote again and they will fix it so only Republicans will be elected. Our education system will go down the drain, police and firefighters and teachers will be working for some private company that will screw them out of their retirement, the poor will get poorer still, and the rich will get richer.

The SC is already corrupted, Kagen should have never been allowed a vote on 0bamacare.
If under privileged means illegal voters then damn straight they won't be able to vote.
Our education system has already been flushed down the toilet thanks to the left.

13. People that will have medical treatment thanks to Obamacare will likely not vote GOP again nt

Yep just like every other freebie given by the democrats funded by the hard work of those of us who are already struggling to make ends meet will keep people voting for the dems.

36. People are going to love it

And they'll wonder how they managed before it. And how American could have waited so long for some kind of attempt to fix the problem we've had.

Oh yeah we are going to so love much higher premiums, less actual health care, and more government control.  :mental:

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I still say that FDR is the worst President in history.

As for the topic, if there is a republican majority in the house, senate, and if Romney wins - Obamacare will be flushed down the toilet where it belongs.

Obama is probably the most opportunistic politician in American history. He had never signed a paycheck for a private company, his entire political career had been set up with a combination of breaks and Chicago dirty tricks his entire way from state senator to US senator.  His presidential run was a combination of several factors including a press who was looking for their Holy Grail socialist:

A major recession triggered by Democratic-caused bank failures
A domestically schizo-RINO president initiating a trillion-dollar bailout
A primary opponent who was not as "bold" and "exciting" as he was and had her own baggage
A crisis in gas prices
A very tepid general election opponent
NO vetting by the press

Once elected, he was "blessed" with a super-majority senate; even THAT was a huge factor of both luck and vote count shenanigans, of which Al Franken was the biggest factor. This was critical in negating any GOP opposition or even impact in virtually every bailout bill. His HUGE win was the passage of Obamacare through outright lies to malcontent senators (the Louisiana Purchase II and the Cornhusker Kickback).

He was able to get two justices confirmed during this time who so far have been the two most anti-constitutionalist justices in SCOTUS history.

Finally, his biggest break was George Bush's biggest mistake: the assignment of John Roberts as Chief Justice, significantly more liberal than William Rehnquist, who decided to secure his own legacy rather than vote for Constitutional austerity, in doing so rendering the Constitution pragmatically null and void. Ironically, had he nominated Roberts to the court and perhaps Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia as Chief, I have no doubt that Roberts would not have voted the way he did (as he would not have been able to write the majority position).

(For ONCE I can actually agree with a DUmmie: It's George Bush's fault!)

Back to Obama: I have pretty much laid out the fact that we literally have the absolutely luckiest man in the history of the country, Barack Obama, who if one out of many factors had not come into play, would not have been successful in getting the ACA passed. And now our work is cut out for us. We are in the process of losing 6 years, or more if we don't get the ESH (executive, senatorial, and house) triad.

DUmmies, listen. You're all for abortion, and you can't understand why Obamacare needs to be aborted?
Look at it this way. It's a malignant tumor that will grow and sap what strength is left in America.
It's a drag on society and an anchor around the neck of future generations.
It benefits no one. Get it? NO ONE. Except politicians looking for power.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

As we're well aware, the scheming daemons primitive is a simpleton.  This is a classic case of how their liberal ideology (the ends) justifies the means.

As we're seeing in Europe, they can't afford all the goodies, and that's without them even having to spring much for their own defense.  Take that away and they're going to have to shift away from the butter and into the guns.  We're a larger economy, but these types of things will eventually catch up with us, too.

More often than not you'll see the primitives try and make the excuse that at least we'll help people today and those down the road will have to deal with whatever confronts them.  Small consolation to those in the future; the primitive damage will have already been done.  Best they'll be able to do to receive some satisfaction is to exume the primitives and posthumously execute them as was done to Oliver Cromwell.

"Toxicity" is a function of the poison's concentration and the body's duration of exposure to it.  Wilson and his policies were much more concentrated a poison to America, but FDR had the more significant impact due to the duration of exposure.

Sure he was.  Look at some of the shit he pulled in office.  FDR wouldn't have been able to get away with half the shit he did had it not been for Wilson.  And LBJ wouldn't have dared to create the Great Society programs had it not been for FDR.

I didn't think of it that way, good point. But I still FDR is the worse because he is that one who enacted a lot of what we have today. Most of which was supposed to be temporary, but turned out permanent.

The GOP is trying to smother Obamacare, not as one 'smothers a baby', but as one 'smothers a wildfire'. Obamacare has the potential to wreak havoc on the United States' "tinder-dry" financials. Kill it, kill it now.
