I thought she was going to become a Tibetan Buddhist. Buddhism is quite popular among celebrities. Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, and Steven Segal, just to name a few.

Either that, or Kabbala (e.g. Madonna and Demi Moore).

..and then evolves into a history lesson on the violence of Buddhists.

For the most part, the Mongols were Buddhists of the Tibetan tradition when they gave the world a serious case of being kicked to the face.

Zen Buddhism as the "kill whatever my lord says" made a reappearance during the japanese invasion of Mainland Asia in the 20th century.

Let's not go pretending that Buddhism a nothing but a bunch of happy hummers with a placid history of eternal meditation or whatever.

Oh yes, we're a horrible Cult who provides food banks for those in the Obamaeconomy who need it, we provide heating and electric bill assistance to those in need, we feed the hungry in Central and South America and Africa. What do Atheists do for those in need? What does Islam do for those in need who are non-Muslim?

Not this 1! most practicing Catholics IMO are overwhelmingly Conservative, it's the CEO Catholics (Christmas Easter Only) who tend to vote leftist.

I know - sadly where I am, most of the Catholics are exactly that variety, which is why we have been merging churches left and right, because they are only the holiday variety anymore.

The church The missus and I got married in just got merged out of existence last month. The church was a classic Victorian style structure. The former attendees have been moved into a nearby church that was built in the '80s and isn't at all representative of what a Catholic church should be. Its really quite sad.

Thankfully, when they merged our church, it was our building that was maintained. It just has a really stupid name now. - Instead of keeping one name, or selecting a whole new name, they took elements from the two merged churches and combined them into "Holy Name of The Sacred Heart of Jesus".. Ugh.

I believe the correct answer to both is bitch about Christians and Jews. Of course, some in Islam also do a lot of killing of the non-Muslims, but they are not biased as they kill both the non-Muslims in need AND the non-Muslin who are not in need.

'lacking,' to put it mildly (and our choirs still sound good!). There's a church architect working on a renovation plan right now. I have no idea how it's going to end up. The thing is, the parish is the largest in the diocese, and it's still growing.

The same thing is true with this new church (cant find the door) The church is more or less round, and is almost entirely beige, save for a few stained glass windows salvaged from the church that originally stood on that property until it was destroyed by fire.

Its just such a loss - but I am a fan of old architecture - Its probably why I own one of the last 100 or so octagonal* houses in the USA.

(*Its classed as an octagon, even though it is actually seven sided)

A long, long time ago, just after Bishop Hubbard was elevated to bishop and started to 'renovate' older churches by making them more 'modern,' the pastor at that time looked at all of the gold leaf and all of the architecture (the church was built in the 1790s, IIRC) and said, "I've got to preserve this. But how?" Because it was the oldest church building in Albany, he decided to put it on the National Registry of Historical Places, and it's now a Federal crime to change the building--inside or out. Plus, there's Federal money available to maintain it--because of its' historical significance. The gold leaf gets a thorough cleaning and touch-up every few years.

My Parish went backwards when it was renovated, it was way too modern, when they renovated they went old, it's absolutely gorgeous.

I live in a predominantly Southern Baptist city....several of the "mega" churches have over 10,000 members!!! There are a couple of non-deniminational mega churches on this side of town too. My daughter and her family go to one. I went once to hers. First 30 minutes was a gospel rock concert, and the next 30 minutes was the preacher preaching. He had on jeans and a wrinkled plaid shirt. He's a recovering addict.

I've been told I'm a heathen, or not a real Christian, because Catholics drink wine in church (OMG the sin of it!!!!) and we go to confession. Not sure why going to confession makes me an evil person, but that's what I was told...by a woman on her 3rd margarita.

She was an enlightened Presbyterian.
