Report: Texas Judge Cancels Hearing Over Presidential Primary Citing High Gas Prices As a Reason

kyrocketing gas prices have many wanting to work from home – including a Texas Judge.

A federal judge canceled a hearing over Texas' presidential primary and caucus system Monday, citing the high cost of gasoline as a reason.

In his order issued Friday, U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said to keep the hearing would mean “numerous gallons of $4.00 a gallon gasoline would be expended for a significant number of persons to appear with the result being an oral presentation of already written arguments,” the Austin American-Statesman reported.

According to the Statesman, Biery went on to imply he might rule on the case without holding any hearings writing, “based on the written briefs already filed and to be filed, and the Court’s own independent research, the Court intends to rule… unless it becomes clear in court testimony is necessary.”

The League of United Latin American Citizens of Texas, the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston and others sued the state and the Democratic Party earlier this month, contending the complicated system used in the March 4 primary election unfairly diluted Latino votes.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
