Genesis
« on: July 06, 2012, 02:04:25 AM »
Greetings, Earthlings.  I am your newest member and anticipate meeting each and every one of you.

Some background on me.  I am almost sixty-four, born and raised in Iowa, have a PhD in astronomy and astrophysics, a recent widow, have five beautiful children and fifteen wonderful grandchildren and root for the Vikings, Twins, Celtics, Blackhawks and Hawkeyes.  Music-wise, I love classical, jazz, blues and classic rock.  I also am a lover of film, including film noirs.  I also enjoy reading, politics and learning.

Pleased to be here.  I have a regular forum, but wanted to post with a different genre of members.  I tried DU, but was banned in less than ten posts.  Last I remember I stated the one million dollar bond for Zimmerman was a tad too high, Susan Martinez was a good governor for New Mexico and Obama would be wise to become a more proficient leader if he would cease blaming Bush and others for the problems of today.  Next thing I know, my posting privileges were revoked.

Politically, I was a Democrat for over forty years.  In the last five, I grew tired of my party for numerous reasons and am now a registered Libertarian.  I have voted in ten presidential elections.  The breakdown goes four Democrats, four Libertarians/Independents and two Republicans.  I hold mostly liberal views, but hold many Libertarian and conservative positions as well.  I feel both sides have done their fair share to have us in this current hole we are in and both need to come together with logic, common sense, compromise and an open mind.

Take care and look forward to seeing you on the boards.

Welcome, Comet!

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about the Higgs boson. If you'd be so inclined, please open a thread on that.

Personally, I have a hard time understanding how this kind of theory explains much, but my wife calls me too much of a pragmatist to latch onto such ideas. I keep trying, though.

See there's this string quartet, and they're not quite on the same page (but since it's Vivaldi it doesn't matter so much)...

Jiggs finished a while ago...

Figgs and Miggs have just come to the end...

But, being somewhere in the middle of the page, Higgs bows on...

Welcome Comet, enjoy your stay.  Since we are an "official" outlet for the VRWC, you may experience a few bumps along the way so, proceed with caution.

h5 for creativity. Mrs E, a card-carrying violist and violinist, would appreciate the effort.

Vivaldi spent too much time writing concerti. He was weird like that.

Took almost 50 years to find it, The God Particle. Now will it take 50 years to figure out what to do with it?

Still say they should have finished the super collider in Texas instead of putting twice the billions in a tunnel under Boston. I guess letting Yankees collide in a tunnel was the Massive-2-shits idea of a super collider.

As a result of CERN in Switzerland, Fermilab in Chicagoland is pretty much obsolete.

And yeah, it'll take at least 50 years to figure out what to do with the Higgs boson. And untold trillions.  :whatever:

Thank you very much for your warm welcome.  I must say you folks are much more tolerant and accepting than DU.  I lasted less than ten posts there.  The funny thing is I am probably more liberal and been a Democrat longer than almost everyone there.

Guess I am not extreme enough for their tastes or use my own brain or my Obama shrine was not big enough.  Who knows.

As for me, I have been disappointed with a laundry list of issues concerning Obama's presidency.  I did not even vote for him in 08.  Instead, I went with Barr.  This year, I did not feel Obama did enough to deserve another term and that I would vote Republican if Paul, Cain or Huntsman won the GOP nomination.  Sadly, none of them did and there is no way I am voting for Romney.  I was fully prepared to go ahead and cast my vote for Obama at that point, despite his many failures, but my final straw was just recently when he praised Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood.

So, seeing I am a registered Libertarian and Huntsman will most likely be representing them on the ballot this election year, he will be receiving my vote.

Resistance is futile in the hive. But if you resist too much, it's the Aston-Martin ejection seat for you from the oh so tolerant libs. As for the conservative cave, welcome. I hope you enjoy it here.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
