Happy Fourth of July to the Treason Party

http://www.suntimes.com/news/steinberg/13560582-452/happy-fourth-of-july-to-the-treason-party.html

BY NEIL STEINBERG nsteinberg@suntimes.com July 3, 2012 6:02PM

What history we recall on the Fourth of July typically involves stirring words of freedom, and rightly so.

But why stop there? After all, not every colonist in 1776 was a patriot, and at this particularly fractured political moment, we might do well to remember that, according to contemporary accounts, one third of Americans wanted revolution, one third were loyal to the crown and one third could go either way. Loyalists did more than talk; they formed Tory regiments and fought alongside the British, against their fellow Americans. snip

When I look at the Republicans, I am tempted to dismiss them as the Treason Party. Seriously, were a band of traitors to concoct a series of positions deliberately designed to weaken America, they would be hard pressed to beat the current GOP dogma — hobble education, starve the government by slashing taxes to the rich, kneecap attempts to jumpstart the economy by fixating on debt, invite corporations to dominate political discourse, balkanize the population by demonizing minorities and immigrants and let favored religions dictate social policy.

What gave me pause, however, is that they beat me to it — for 15 years the Republicans have been treating Democrats as if believing in a government that addresses our common public problems is a form of sedition. Given how uniformly wrong they are, I’m loathe to use any of their tactics, even one that has been so stunningly effective, convincing millions of Americans their best interests lie in coddling the rich and their champion is a stiff, dressage-riding multi-millionaire.

1. There is not a doubt in my body that the tea party of today......

would have been the Tories of the revolution.
Their greatest fear is change and that wouldn't have been any different in 1775.

Oh yeah we would be 100% loyal to the crown.  :mental:
These idiots have no clue what we believe in. If anyone had been the Tories it would have been the left, because the left would love living under a king who dictates everything they do in their lives. In fact the Tories are probably the ancestors of the modern left, who have been slowly working over the past 200+ years to return us to the days of tyranny.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Posted this in another thread...and here just make sure the DUmmies see it and know that I'm raising another American Terrorist....  :-)....  :bird:DUmmies

Just finished watching "The Patriot".

Tomorrow or Friday I will take my son and his girlfriend on a history tour of our area. It will be some of the battle fields within a few miles of home. The first will be "Hanging Rock", then on to "The battle of Camden", back around by the monument and grave site at the site of "Buford's Massacre" (site of Tarleton's Quarter), across the river to "The Battle of Fishing Creek", a look at the remains of Fort Dearborn on Dearborn island where lead, powder and cannon was stored (No stored rifles for militia, DUmmies), then North to the Waxhaws where Andrew Jackson was born and the Presbyterian church and graveyard of his ancestors....and then finally, to the graveyard where some of our family ancestors that fought in "The Revolutionary War" are buried.

ETA: Might just take a hike in the woods to small family graveyard where some Civil War dead are buried. No matter what other people think, it's all part of the family history.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Hey DUmbasses...which party is it that wants freedom to pursue life and liberty and which wants all their desires confiscated from others and given to them by an all powerful authority?

Think real hard on it and see if you can find the answer.  :bird:

LA Gov. Bobby Jindal must have known Don would open his mouth and say something stupid...

Declaration of Independence, not Dependence
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Doesn't take a genius to win that bet.

I read that on RedState, but like most of the time, I didn't pay attention to the byline.

It looks like they passed the crack pipe around this morning.

Why would today be any different than any other? :fuelfire:

But series Hugh, Freeper was right, only I would put it  "They have no idea what the founding fathers believed."   The concept of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is as alien to them as Alf.

On thing that I do believe is a dedicated ten percent can take over a country.  Don is right that not everyone was down with freedom nor will they be again. Then too, they are too damn lazy to leave. :rotf:
