Difference Between Cobbler and Pie and Cool Facts
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:08:49 PM »
We've all had a peach cobbler, apple pie, or chocolate mousse pie. Savoring it. Okay, what is the difference between cobbler and pie. Wonder what is the difference and history of it.

Cobbler-No bottom crust. Origin is likely in British American colonies. Brown Betty is a cobbler.
Pie-Bottom crust. The origin of pie can be traced to 9,500 BC in present day Egypt. This is even before the Pyramids were built. Boston cream pie is not a pie, but a cake. It is likely called a pie because of the way it is cut. Pies are cut in wedges, while cakes can either be cut into wedges or squares.

Both cobbler and pies can be made into square.

The word pizza comes from the Greek word pita, which means "pie". Pizza is a pie. Pies do not always have top crust, like chocolate mousse pie.

Is cheesecake a pie or a cake?

I have seen more round cakes than I have seen square pies.  Almost every cobbler I have seen has been in a cake pan.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I love pie, but I make cobbler, because it is easier, and you don't have to worry if it doesn't look pretty.

Good question about cheesecake. I guess a cross between cake and pie. More of a cake I guess.

Cheesecake is a "class" all by itself.  :-)

Made a peach cobbler this afternoon......
