I love "preppers" of all flavors. No matter their cause, and they may hate or laugh at each other, they're all just survivalist nuts, and they the densest, funniest crackpots out there. The most entertaining time in the history of Algore's innertube was the last few months of 1999, as the Y2K apocalypse came thundering in like an overloaded coal train. The panic gradually increased until lots of message boards were incoherent. Y2K was also the golden age of trolling.

Oh, this is too good!

Walmart/Haliburton has been replaced with Bain/Koch Industries.
The Bush Reeducation/Detention camps have been replaced with the Romney Mormon Reeducation/Detention camps.
I'm sure there will soon be pictures of the Walmart/Bain/Koch Industries Detention Camps all over the internet, just like the Target/Walmart/Haliburton ones.

It depends on the degree. I've got enough cash, gold, silver, guns, ammo, food, water, and medical supplies to last for about 4 months should something bad happen. Am I a nut-job? Now, I'm not sinking every penny I have into an underground bunker to survive the NK/Chinese/Russian nuclear assault, but the possibility of food and fuel shortages is a reality. OTOH, the DUmmies' idea of the "apocalypse" is government entitlement checks not going out on time.

How does one calculate the amount of firepower and precious metals required for a certain amount of time? I can understand an emergency cache of food and water. The rest just seems expensive nonsense to most of us. Of course most of us will die, according to the apocalyptics. No journey to the mother ship in fresh Nikes!

Well, I've got about 50K rounds of military calibers (5.45x39, 7.62x39, 5.56x45, 7.62x51, 9x19, and .45 ACP). That's not including other random calibers like .40 S&W, 12 gauge, 7mm Mag, .30-30, etc. I think I'm pretty good on firepower. Well, I'm a gun collector anyway, so I would've spent money on guns and ammo regardless. The gold and silver serve multiple purposes......investment, hedge, possible currency (over half is in pre-'65 90% silver coinage). If you want to put your absolute trust in the competence and altruism of our government, other world governments, bankers, and your fellow man, feel free. I prefer to have options.
