I think I could only do about half this on my Harley.  How 'bout the rest of you riders?

No way in hell. I couldn't do even half of that stuff. Best I can do is drag my pegs in a high-speed turn.  :p

LOL!  I'm lucky to hold my bike up at a stop sign let alone do anything this dude is doing.

I wonder what he's riding.  Some of those motocross bikes are pretty light, like 200 pounds or less.  My last dirtbike was an old Honda 250 and weighed over 300.

I'm going to guess it's a KTM, but that's only because of the orange paintwork.

Notice the rather large rear sprocket. That bike was designed for torque & not speed. It would surprise me if that bike could get much above 50 MPH. It also appears to be pretty light.

Cool!  That looks like what they used to call "Enduro" out here.  Let one club host a three day event in a canyon on a place I leased.  The kids and I used to take our bikes on the course.  Never got to try it with a motorcycle.  Probably takes more upper body strength than I have anyway.

Actually, no, it's a sport called motorcycle "trials".

Enduro is a sport that features mostly offroad type riding - not quite motocross, but in the same style, and one that features some on-road type racing as well. Sometimes enduro racing events take several days to complete.

Motorcycle trials negotiates barriers, as we've seen, and is definitely a non-speed event. Riders are deducted points for each time their feet touch the ground. The more difficult the barrier, the more potential points are at stake. The bikes feature no seats, are extremely lightweight, and have other elements (like large rear sprockets) that are designed for low, low speeds and less fork travel, unlike motocross bikes.

I'm confused.  What would have been going on at my place?  So enduro is more like an edurance race and trials are the hill and obstacle climbing that I saw?

The bikes also had no seats.  Speed didn't seem to be the primary factor, though there was a time limit for completing the course with some sort of penalty if the contestant exceeded that.  I recall the people standing, and hopping their bikes into place before they could continue forward.  They seemed to like going over rocks and around trees along with steep hillsides.  And when they faced a combination of the three, they really got happy.

I never spent much time around them when they were on the place.  Most concerned that no one decided to chase my pairs with their bikes. That they stayed within a smallish pasture.  Oh, and didn't burn the place down.

Well, of course I can't ID what you saw as I wasn't there. I was speaking in general terms. The trials video in the OP is just that. Enduro can be a multitude of things, but generally it's outdoors and can run over several days. Maybe you saw an element of that enduro competition that featured trials riding.

I had a friend in high school who did trials bike competition at the national level and he could do some amazing stuff, but nowhere near what this guy is doing.  Also, I remember he had a special Husqvarna trials bike and that is was very expensive and hard to come by.  I imagine todays trials bikes are much more advanced that what he had in the late '70's & early '80's.
