Traveling folks!
« on: June 18, 2012, 07:44:54 PM »
Hello form the hot, hot, hot campground at Big Cabin, Oklahoma.   :fuelfire:  Trip's going well so far, taking photos along old RT US66 when possible. Every day so far the truck's engine was not shut down from startup in the morning until we were at the campgrounds, even when refueling - the dogs must be taken care of.

When I was in the AF in the late fifties and early sixties, Big Cabin was always one of my favorite stops 'tween San Antonio and Kansas City. Really good burgers at a stop there just at the cut over to US71 in Missouri. Wonder if it's still there.........

Fun trip!  Please keep us posted with your updates!  Reading about your trip is probably the closest I will get to a vacation this year. :)

I'll try. The net connections are really "iffy" in most of the places we go.

As it should be.  That's why they call it "getting away from it all."

HELLO, FROM TUCUMCARI!!    :)

My recomendation.. Head North it has to be cooler somewhere.

We will, as  soon as the 66 excursion is done for us. That might be real soon; the thermometer was 101 today. It's 90 right now. Looking forward to the flagstaff region.

Lotsa pictures - about 150 so far. So many deserted towns and towns with almost everything shut down and abandoned.

Took old 66 way over to CA today, where it was 107. Took the Oatman Highway through the mountains, on which vehicles are limited to 40; or less. No problems! The feral burros were out begging food in Oatman, per usual. Turned around just into CA and returned to Seligman, AZ, which we saw earlier in the day. Camped there right now. It was 92 when we checked in, but it'll go down to about 55 tonight. It's in the low 70s now.

Tomorrow will be interesting; the wildfires have caused us to drastically change plans to something else, what else we don't now.

Sounds like you spent about the right amount of time in CA.  Hope you didn't spend any money there.

It hasn't been this hot here in a long time.  Last year, we had maybe a week of 100+ weather.
