W. Va. Democrats to skip convention

A trio of West Virginia Democrats will not attend the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. to formally re-nominate President Barack Obama this summer.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Sen. Joe Manchin and Rep. Nick Rahall do not plan to attend the convention, according to state party chairman Larry Puccio, who released the state's convention delegation list today in accordance with party rules.

West Virginia's senior Sen. Jay Rockefeller will attend, the state party said.

Obama is highly unpopular in West Virginia, a fact most recently reflected in the state's May 8 presidential primary where a federal inmate won over 40% of the vote against him.

Manchin in particular has sought distance from the president. In April, Manchin said he was not committed to supporting Obama's re-election.

"I intend to spend this fall focused on the people of West Virginia, whether that's representing them in my official U.S. Senate duties or here at home, where I can hear about their concerns and ideas to solve the problems of this great nation," Manchin said in a statement regarding his decision to skip the convention. "I will remain focused on bringing people together for the next generation, not the next election. "

Rahall's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why on earth would they do such a thing? Could it have to do with how 0bama is killing the coal industry?

5. WV has no jobs and its cultural head stuck in the '50s. They dislike everyone in DC.

They hurt, a lot. Who can blame them, really?

When the preezy is making your biggest economic activity pretty much illegal you tend not to like that. If 0bama was out to destroy the gambling industry  Dingy Harry would abandon him faster than you could roll a pair of dice.

I bet they wouldn't vote for Obama even if he wore a white sheet and burnt a cross.

I bet those democrats that are not going will also be not voting for him in the general election either.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they showed up at the republican convention and supported Romney?  :lmao:

My Spidey Sense tell me that 0bama could turn West Virginia red through out.

Hey Kat, you stupid DUmbass it has nothing to do with the color of his skin.  It all about his and his administration trying to kill coal and natural gas.  You know the stuff they burn in power plants so idiots like you can type on keyboards in your mom's basement.  He could have been the Green Globlin, if you bad mouth coal in West Virginia or Southwest Virginia your not going to survive.  Just the way it is.  Another little secret you idiots also may have missed, most coal miners are members of the coal union.    :bigbird:

It's raaaaacism!!!!  That is the story by the whiney assed libs here in WV. Of course these idiots can't stand any extractive industry here either. If your job is directly or indirectly tied to any extractive industry, obozo ain't getting your vote. These fool libs just do not realize how many jobs here are tied to extractive industries.

The thing that gets me is why in hades these people keep voting for rockefeller. Specially after he came out publicly yesterday and supports putting coal out of business.

As for manchin... he will do or say anything it takes for him to win the next election. He was a very popular governor... but the special election for senate was a lot closer than he ever thought it would be. Same deal for Earl-Ray Tomblin. Nicky-Joe Rahall won, but it wasn't by much in the last general election and he is looking at another close one in November.

Funny thing about all this is Puccio was Manchin's Chief of Staff when he was Governor.

A couple of racist democrat congressmen are also not going.  By the time of the convention, i bet that about 35% of the donk incumbents will have soooooper busy and not be at the convention. Also there will be scheduling difficulties whenever 0bama is in the vicinity.

God bless Scott Walker.

I was reading a bunch of news stories about Foldem Holder, and at one of the news-sites (I forget which one) there was a link to a story, "Race to become issue during presidential campaign."

Oh no it won't.

The Democrats, liberals, and primitives are going to bust their asses to make race an issue, but that won't fly any more.

I agree Frank. The libbies have shouted raaaaacism so much that ordinary people are tired of it. The ordinary people are also tired of "voting against your self interest" crap and "the other side it stoopid".

It just escapes me how a political party can have a meme that people, ie voters, are too stupid to understand what is good for them and expect same people to vote for them... and then when they don't they are stooopid raaaacists, that cling to God, Guns, and whatever else that meme was.

It's like Wendys saying that people that eat at Mickey Dee's are stupid and don't know what is good for them. Yeppers... that's a hell of an advertising strategy!!!  :mental:

I hadn't heard that, Kr.

I just can't help but wonder what is going thru obumbles election team minds right now. I know what is going thru obumbles mind... nothing. He thinks he is a god. He thinks the election is a slam dunk. If he loses, it will be because... well it will be because of someone/something else.

Too bad there is not a stronger candidate than Romney.  I'd like to see a 50 state slaughter. Then I want to watch obumble on national TV try to explain that.

It wouldn't surprise me if Obama already wrote his concession speech. I can see it now - It will be one big blame game on everyone but himself.

Well, there's some more (D) congressmen, including two from New York and one from Pennsylvania, who aren't going to Barack Milhous' last bash, but I fail to see what the primitives are all hot and excited about.

From what I recall of national political conventions--and the memory goes back to 1968, although I was just a kid then--it seems to me every four-year convention by both parties has been snubbed by a few prominent members, for one reason or another.

Whoop-whoop-de-do, primitives.

Maybe they should change the venue for the second coronation.  Move it to some bathhouse in San Francisco where I'm sure Obama would draw a standing room only crowd.

The PA congressman has an internal poll that has Obama down by double-digits to Romney, in his newly redrawn district.  Of the two from NY, one of them is Karin's congressman.  The other is a woman, who I know nothing about.
