Mob turncoat Henry Hill, immortalized in film 'Goodfellas,' dies at age 69

Mob rat Henry Hill — who was immortalized in the movie “Goodfellas” and booted from the witness protection program — died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a long illness, TMZ reported. He was 69.

Hill earned his place in gangland history by participating in the 1978 Lufthansa heist at Kennedy Airport, which netted a then-record $5 million. He became one of the most notorious Mafia canaries by turning FBI informant after being busted for pushing drugs. His turncoat testimony helped the feds nab dozens of wiseguys.

Hill spent several years in witness protection with his wife and kids, but was tossed out in the early 1990s because he couldn’t stay out of trouble.

It was, but I can't seem to ever remember how it ended.

Nicholas Pellegi's "Wiseguys" was an interesting read.

The book was great too.

It ended like this, Henry and Jimmy were in a diner, Jimmy asked Henry to go to Florida to do a hit for him, Henry realized it was a set-up, he and Karen talk to Ed McDonald (who was the real life prosecutor in the case, they were testing actors to play Ed but he played himself better LOL) then we see the Court scene where all the players are on trial, then Henry leaps out of the witness stand, talks about the life and says this (courtesy of IMDB)

Quote
Henry Hill: [narrating] Anything I wanted was a phone call away. Free cars. The keys to a dozen hideout flats all over the city. I bet twenty, thirty grand over a weekend and then I'd either blow the winnings in a week or go to the sharks to pay back the bookies.
[Henry leaves the witness stand and speaks directly to the camera]
Henry Hill: Didn't matter. It didn't mean anything. When I was broke, I'd go out and rob some more. We ran everything. We paid off cops. We paid off lawyers. We paid off judges. Everybody had their hands out. Everything was for the taking. And now it's all over.
[narrating]
Henry Hill: And that's the hardest part. Today everything is different; there's no action... have to wait around like everyone else. Can't even get decent food - right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce, and I got egg noodles and ketchup. I'm an average nobody... get to live the rest of my life like a schnook.

Then you see him coming out the front door of his house with not much around, in his robe, and he smirks.

I'm a mob movie fanatic LOL.

Henry Hill, a mobster in the Lucchese crime family dies at 69. He was the subject of the movie "Goodfella's" and was played magnificently by Ray Liotta. I really thought Joe Pesci was also brilliant, as was De Niro.
Anyone have him in their dead pool ?

It is a fantastic movie but I cannot stop on it while channel surfing otherwise I have to watch it through to the end. I have the same problem with "The Sting", "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and God help me "Battlefield Earth". Maybe it is an OCD thing.

I am like that with the Godfather movies. They suck me in every time.

Battlefield Earth ? With John Revolta ? That has to be one of the biggest stinkers of all times.

1986 interview with Nicholas Pillegi

I heard this while I was driving around yesterday.  It's interesting.

Some good trivia about a subject that for me has a somewhat morbid attraction. Until today I did not know that Nicholas Pillegi was the author of the book the movie was based on.
