Don Rickles, who is the king and undisputed world champion of clean, insult comedy, has riled the primitives regarding his Obama/mop joke. The crowd **gasped** at the joke when they heard Der Leader was the brunt of a joke, and the DUmmies can't contain their "disgust".

Don Rickles' racial joke about President Obama...

Don Rickles told a racial joke Thursday night at the American Film Institute’s tribute to Shirley MacLaine that may have been more appropriate half a century ago at the Friar's Club. This time, though, the object of Rickles' mockery wasn't Sammy Davis Jr. -- but the first African-American President of the United States.

"I shouldn’t make fun of the blacks," Rickles, 86, said according to The Hollywood Reporter. "President Obama is a personal friend of mine. He was over to the house yesterday, but the mop broke."

Like many comedians of his generation, Rickles' act has long included racial humor that would be considered unacceptable to today's audiences. But as race relations evolved, it became rarer and rarer for comedians like Rickles to include such jokes in their act.

This was not the first times Rickles did material about Obama that made audiences squeamish. Right after Obama was elected in 2008, Rickles went on "Late Show with David Letterman" to try out some jokes about Obama playing basketball in the White House during a national emergency. The studio audience was audibly uncomfortable with the racial implications.

On the Letterman show, he also was there while Denzel Washington was a guest. He couldn't stop laughing his ASS off at Rickles making fun of him the entire time (though he let Letterman have it twice as much).

Bottom line: These people do not understand that if Rickles makes a joke about you and your heritage, you've ARRIVED. If he doesn't, you are still B-list or below.

He/she/it would have REALLY blown a fuse if Rickles had called Zero a "hockey puck".

Actually, I liked the comment.  Rickles implied Zero was actually DOING SOMETHING useful!

Don Rickles is one of the funniest men ever to walk a stage. So was Sam Kinison, decades later in his own but similar way, unfortunately cut short in the prime of a brilliant career. No doubt they hate Kinison too. DUmmie surgical requirement: senseofhumorectomy.

He didn't give a shit. He targeted himself plenty for humor, too. Blacks, whites (as in "white bread"), southern people, overweight people, Jews, drinkers, gays, bad memories, you name it--if it was a way to ply insult humor, he ran with it. Look at that frog face and those rolling eyes! The way he brings the audience in on the joke when he does the insult schtick! He's the master of that, the sensei.

Couple things of his I always liked:
1. He's funny as the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the 'Toy Story' series.
2. I seem to recall a freaking hilarious incident on 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien' in which Rickles was a guest and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was basically worshipping him for being more or less the father of insult comedy.
