Expedia?

anyone ever done the Expedia thing where you pay for the hotel up front before you find out where it's at or who owns it?  if so, what were you results?

I am looking at one for a 2 star room for $52 bucks in Blue Ridge GA.  Says it has pool, wifi, breakfast

Do they give you the address?

Hell, I'd take it.  It's probably an old Best Western or Comfort Inn.  I think my stay in Maryland was at a Howard Johnsons for the same price.  It beat $200 a night at the Hyatt.

no, no clues.  I think I will just drive in and find something.  I am very picky where I lay my head.  Too many times I have been stuck in an indian owned hotel.  Every time I have had a bad experience either from the smell of oily food or cigarette smoke.

$52 for a room in Blue Ridge Ga.......it's most likely India Indian.

Yeh, just saw a review of a few of them and people complained of the "smells like ethnic food" in the rooms.

See what you can gooogle up around Duck Town or Copperhill.

Expedia does that now?

I've done it on Priceline.  Only been disappointed twice, and only one of those had to do with the actual room, and that wasn't bad enough to make us walk out.

Mostly I use it for "staycations", usually with nieces/nephews along (for the pools), and generally end up in the same $150/night Baymont for $45.  Very nice.

Now that I think about it, I did sleep on top of the covers at that HoJo.  I wasn't too keen on getting up underneath them. :rotf:

Done it a couple of times, but got really lucky once when I stayed at the Copley Plaza in downtown Boston for $149.  That was a sweet deal.

Oh, I don't like that idea of being blind to what it is.  And with motels, once you're reserved, they can charge you.  I was forced to stay at one of those awful India Indian motels, it was the only place that accepted our big dogs, during some kind of major renovation or something.  It was just aaaawwwful..

I've had pretty good luck with Hotwire.com.

You can select a 3-star hotel, still get it at a very reasonable cost, and be assured it ain't one of those no-tell motel types with Pahk-ee-stahn types reeking of cardamom and masala.

I ended up just getting a Ramada room and using my military discount for 79 a night.  Pretty decent room.

I just used hotels.com and will never use them again.  Also I loathe Ramada.  I have never been in a clean updated one.  They have all been disgusting.

This one was pretty good.  My favs are Holiday Inn Express.  I have been in some pretty spa like one's for about 120 a night and they are nice.

Cardamom and masala wouldn't be so bad.  I've found that they SOAK in really, really cheap; really, really bad cologne.  They immerse themselves in it.  Awful.  But now, the thread has gone waisis.
