1. It may be time to examine why the general voter out there seem to be against

public employee unions and the pension/pay benefits of the workers and what we should do about it. This is not only happening in WI, but CA, NY, MA (and nationally with the Obama administration's attacks on teacher tenure). Maybe to soon to have a real discussion about this but I believe it will be major by November.

It's the "You shouldn't have it better than I do"-mentality. The rw has brilliantly pitted regular people against each other. People don't have disdain for wealthy people. I have a guy who lives up the hill from me (this is VERY small town Iowa) who has a movie theater in his house, a gymnasium behind his house, a separate stone cottage for his daughter's dolls, etc... This is a guy who installed a nearly $100,000 retaining wall, didn't like the way it looked, so he had them rip it out and build something else. ANYWAY, nobody resents him. They applaud him. They (delusionally) want to be him. It's their neighbor who makes $4k a year more than them who they hate.

rw'ers are evil, but they've been very effective at doing all their message stuff for the last 30 years.

Nope, it's the average American getting fed-up with paying for public sector unions cushy retirements and because of property taxes it's impossible for them to save for their own retirement. Look at it this way, you try to do the nice thing and you give, let's say as an example, you give a family $1,000 because they need it, next thing you know you see them at Best Buy buying a new computer and laptop while you're using an old computer and laptop, how would you feel?

it's true. Public workers/unions seem to have a nice cushy package. Seniority(age discrimination, essentially), fat pay, benefits, political clout...It's no wonder private sector workers like my parents resent unions.

Even FDR was opposed to the public sector being able to form unions, and for obvious reasons.

Whether the kook left understands the real reasons people are upset is irrelevant.  I'd prefer they didn't face the truth, that way they keep doing the wrong things to rectify it.

     It isn't "hatred," you stupid DUmmy ****s. It's a basic recognition that one shouldn't receive a lifetime of security on the taxpayer dime just for reshelving library books for 30 years. Just because you think that's the way it should be for ALL workers doesn't mean you get to have it for public workers. People are sick as balls of hearing that government budgets are busting when public employees bear almost no economic risk whatsoever.

     Public libraries are quiet, air conditioned, and modern. What do library workers need from a union? Likewise any other government job. The only purpose of unions is to get exactly the same shit that voters are voting down now. If you want to be pissed at someone, get pissed at the union bosses who pull the strings.

Isn't that the truth!  I just got done paying the last chunk of property taxes; drop the envelope into the mailbox, open up the PO Box and guess what's sitting there?  A new chunk of property taxes.   :rant:

Problem with kalifornia is that a retired public employee receives $65k/yr plus free healthcare with COLAs. The average private sector working person EARNS $44k/yr and pays for a good portion of their health care.

In addition, 90% of public employees could stay at home and nobody would notice any difference. They provide next to nothing to the betterment of society.

Probably because a significant fraction of the local population built the house and both walls-- and got paid for it.  The rich guy is a net benefit to the community.  The moochers, on the other hand, are a net drain on the community.  Add to which moochers on the other side of the country are also draining this community thanks to federal taxes and redistribution.

Might I add that your average govt teacher does not suffer nearly as much as your average junior enlisted man or rookie police officer/firefighter.  Ergo, those that don't put their lives on the line for their country or community have no reason to ever try and place themselves on the same level.

Well, let's see, because every time they think they aren't sucking enough money out of the pockets of the private citizens who pay their salaries, they go on strike. Whatever services you idiots do a half-assed job of providing simply stop until you get what you want. We the People don't get to negotiate, we're held hostage while one government employee makes some kind of concession to other government employees. If we're paying your salaries, WE should be the arbiters of whether you deserve or we can even afford to give you a raise. You want a raise? Make your proposal and put it on a ballot!

Public unions make more than those people paying their salary...and for the public's generosity ("it's for the children!!!!"), you guys still throw tantrums like 2 year olds (or Greece) when you don't get your way. What kind of an adult acts like that? And as far as schools go, I'd bet over half the schools in this country give students a substandard education but an A+ in liberal indoctrination. That's not their place.

Basically, people have come to realize they're not getting what they pay for. Maybe, instead of finding excuses for why people are turning against public unions, you might examine WHY people aren't happy. And right now, everyone has to tighten their belts. So should those of you squatting in an office shuffling the same papers around, yucking it up in the back room at the post office, watching the crowds gather while only one of you at the DMV opens a window, or teaching our children that Megan has Two Polar Bear Mommies Dying from Ice Melting in the Amazon Rain Forest, you might try empathy with the people who pay your salary. Even the conservative ones. We can't afford you. Even IF, by some miracle, you actually do the job you're being paid to do.
