 A little boy out practicing shooting nearly shot me this afternoon.
A bullet whizzed past my head and splashed the stream I was fishing in.

His Mom had taken him out shooting. He was shooting near my parked car,
but, it seems, it did not occur to them someone might be in the area.

I did catch my dinner, and I'm glad I did not catch my last breath!

How did a bullet "whiz past his head" and then fall in the stream he was fishing in? If the bullet was moving fast enough to "whiz" and he was near enough to the stream to cast a line into it then the bullet wouldn't have the time to fall in to the water. It would have "whizzed" on past and into the bank on the other side. I guess maybe the kid could have been shooting down a hill but then wouldn't he have seen someone fishing?
