A new Gallup survey finds that U.S. veterans, about 13% of the adult population and consisting mostly of older men, support Mitt Romney over President Obama for president by a whopping 58% to 34%, while nonveterans give Obama a four point edge, 48% to 44%.

If Rush had never been born I don't think these numbers would be any different. Many service members are right of center. Also, many older folks are veterans and they tend to lean conservative as well.

Given what he's done to get them home from Afghanistan and Iraq and decimating the al Qaeda gang, Obama is probably a lot more popular with younger veterans and military than is given credit for.

I thought the meme was that minorities are overrepresented in the military. How could all the interviewees by white?

So doesn't that make Obama the ultimate chickenhawk? Remember, he tried top keep troops in Iraq beyond the SOFA put in place by Bush.

This is why I think that if you are going to be the commander in chief of the armed forces you should have inside information on how it works. Our last two dim presidents did not have that experience.

At the time, Clinton was studying as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University but graduate school draft deferments had ended in 1967. Clinton was classified 1-A - available for military service - when he graduated from Georgetown University in the spring of 1968. But because of his Rhodes scholar status, his local draft board allowed him to continue his studies at Oxford, the Journal reported."As old as he was, he would have been at the top of the list" to be drafted, the Journal quoted Opal Ellis, the draft board's executive secretary, as saying.

Uh, not true. They just happen to be very respectful. When the first wookie came to Pendleton they had to FORCE service members to go. No one wanted to volunteer. OTOH, when Bush visited the troops there weren't enough seats to fit everyone who wanted to be there. The reason is because he has no respect for them. Someone who cared about the troops would learn to say Corpsman instead of Corpseman.

Oh, and making the military smaller wouldn't make less conservatives. They'd still be conservative, they just wouldn't go in the military, providing you the opportunity to accuse them of being hawks without ever serving.

But here's something I really want to know. I'm being absolutely genuine here and would appreciate if one of you would come over here and explain it to me. Why do you think Rush should be either banned or extremely limited on Armed Forces Radio. These men and women, by and large, ARE conservative so it's not like Rush is going to change them into something they aren't. They don't want to listen to liberals and will just turn it off. These are the men and women fighting, dying, having limbs blown off, watching buddies die, reading Miranda rights on the battlefield and being told not to keep a bullet in the chamber (thus increasing the likelihood they'll be killed or injured because the enemy sure has his weapon ready), etc. Why shouldn't they, as the ones serving their country not be able to listen to who they want? Why shouldn't it be their choice whose on their radio. I honestly would like to know why you feel that way. If you don't have the guts to come over here maybe one of you could respond in the thread on your site? Thank you.

Hearing about these veterans being in favor of Romney reminds me of all the veterans who were against John F'n Kerry.

It could be that the Veterans are remembering how it was in 2008. The liberals tried everything they could to not include the military absenteeism vote. When the results came back that a majority were for John McCain, it is a given why they did.

A good friend spent 20 years in the Marine Corps.  His retirement was going to roughly coincide with Obama's inauguration in 2009, so his CO ensured that his discharge certificate was signed by President Bush, not by Obama. (Forgive the verbage, probably the wrong military lingo used above)

John F'n Kerry, who served in Vietnam then came back ridiculing the troops calling them war criminals, and meeting with the North Korean president along side Hanoi Jane. I am still baffled that he isn't dead or in jail.
