Myanmar cyclone: Forced labour camp fears
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:46:27 PM »

Quote
The ruling military junta has forcibly relocated tens of thousands of survivors from the Irrawaddy delta following the devastation of Cyclone Nargis on May 2.

Many who had sought shelter in Buddhist monasteries – the centre of unrest during protests against the junta last year – are also being moved into government camps.

Ko Hla Min, a 35-year-old farmer who lost nine relatives in the storm, said that those rounded up by soldiers around the devastated town of Bogalay were being used as forced labour.

“They have to break stones at the construction sites. They are paid $1 per day but are not provided with any food,” he said.

I know it is just too horrible to contemplate.

Hell has a special place for the ruling military junta of Burma.

They've already seen a taste of hell.......

In all seriousness, I hope they rot in hell. :censored:

And yet the DUmmies all whine about how horrible Katrina was and how it was all Bush's fault. Here, we have a true catastrophe that parallels just about everything that the DUmmies think Katrina was (thousands dead, thousands more die in the aftermath, a government that refuses to allow help). I'm sure they'll try to find some cockamamie way to blame Bush for this too.

Is the left even complaining about it or do you hear crickets?

If I recall the military junta is a socialist regime. Their response is atrocious and makes Katrina response better. Actually, if I recall reading that the response for Katrina is considered one of the fastest. The response for Andrew and Floyd was slower.
