NC Teacher, Obama supporter, shows her ignorance
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:51:33 AM »
Fizzled campfire, and kudos to those who said it was wrong, kind of think the thread fizzled because people who agree with the Teacher realized they'd come off looking like fools.

Here we go again (NC teacher??)
I just got up this morning to find one of my 'friends' had sent me this video of a teacher in North Carolina (rightfully) telling a student you can't just say what you want to about the President.

Does anybody know if this is real or fake? This person has sent me other things like this before, and I'd really like to throw it back in their faces on this one. It seems to over the top to be real. It's a youtube link, but just audio supposedly recorded by another student.

Thanks guys, the DU is awesome!!

on Breitbart and else where.

First looks says the teacher could have been more poised.

2. if it's real...

the teacher has some serious problems...

3. Yes, but

Ok, fair enough- but progressive professor says that it's 'making the rounds' as it were, so how do we counter what others are thinking for themselves about the video?

I still think the teacher is right in her assertion.

4. Yes, if this is legit the teacher is way off base

She has the perfect opportunity to facilitate a discussion about politics and politicians and what passes for political discourse these days.

She comes across as a knee-jerk ideologue, not an educator.

5. No - if you listen to the whole thing - she is consistent, not an ideologue.

Now she also comes off as fairly uninformed, and as having poor control of her classroom - the kids took over any control she had of that classroom for a side discussion that lasted a long time and wasn't productive. Wonder what the lesson for the day was supposed to be about. Also wonder where she learned civics (people can be arrested for speaking disrespectfully about sitting and former presidents... really?)

However she is consistent on this point - asserting the same 'respect' was and is due to W. as for Obama.

Quote
Spaldeen
6. Listening to the whole thing

Yes, she could have done a better job of controlling her class, and keeping them on topic and staying with the narrative.

I also think that there is no way that W should be afforded the same respect as President Obama. W doesn't deserve to lick the ground President Obama has walked on, regardless of any minor issues he's been set back with.

We aren't talking apples and oranges here, and the teacher knows it. You know it. I know it. She's just a strong enough person to say what we're all thinking inside. I'm not going to fault her for that, and I don't think anybody here should, either.

She was too much of a "true believer" for me. Obama is not above scrutiny and criticism, imo. That whole "equal justice under law" thing still means something to me.

Maybe I'll give it a complete listen later, but I think what the kid was saying about Obama early on was not disrespectful (I didn't hear anything after about 5 minutes, I guess...it just got boring) and she seemed to be completely overreacting.

At the very least, she was a very poor educator in this instance.

And BTW: Ideologues are often consistent to a fault.

8. NO.

So the teacher is telling her students they shouldn't speak their minds about Obama?

Because he is president?

Bullshit. She is waaaaaay off base.

I only listened to about the 4:00 mark, but I'd heard enough by then.

I believe I'd pull my kid out of that class over that.

Teacher is wrong, and scary.

That the OP thinks this is ok is scary too.

9. I wouldn't have gone the route of imprisonment for speaking bad about President Obama

But I definitely would have brought out the illegal activities that the republican Party has committed in the guise of "political discourse," and painstakingly explained to the kiddies how such actions which are criminal in any other context cannot just apply to one party. That would have been an excellent time for such discourse.

In today's parlance, a knee-jerk far left ideologue is an educator.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Why is it that the stupidest people in the country are often teaching our kid?  Not all teachers are stupid, of course, but there are enough of them to do a lot of damage.

Rightfully?  All the kid did was ask why it's ok to talk about Romney allegedly bullying a kid 40 years ago and not ok to mention Obama admitting in writing he bullied a girl in school.

 :whatever:

Now you can't go around yelling that the President should die (and NO I"M NOT SAYING THAT EITHER...it's an example) anymore than people are allowed to yell fire in a crowded theater.

But to say you can be arrested for merely asking why the President is coming under the same scruitny as the man challenging him is retarded.

And for someone to be in a position of teachin those young kids to have nothing better to defend her position with other than "he's already the President" should get her fired.

Even if that's what you believe...you can't let one of your students give a smarter answer than yours.

Or to say well you can say all kinds of mean stuff about W because YOU happen to think he was a crappy President? Great you just lost any cred as an intelligent person with your class of 6th graders that you might have had.

If they'd really been on their game or not been taking pity on you...they'd have asked you why if you can't criticize a sitting President without going to jail...are the people who called Bush Hitler...said he was a war criminal and wrote a movie about his assassanation not sitting in the Federal pen?

You know, if that teacher was saying that to a kid when Bush was President, or even if Romney becomes President, you would be seeing the MSM and the DUmp going ape shit over it. They would be calling for the teacher to be strung up at the nearest tree.

Here is a related story in the Blaze. Note this one item:

Quote
Our research has not turned up a single case of anyone in America being arrested for speaking ill of former President Bush.

Not Bush, or any other Republican President. No, you have to look to Democrats for examples of fascism:

"You suck, and those boys died!"

Mrs. Mendoza has said the president looked her in the eyes, then motioned to an assistant and pointed her out, as he continued on past her through the crowd attempting to get photos of people shaking hands with him.

After Clinton left the area, Secret Service agents pounced on Mrs. Mendoza and accused her of "threatening" president Clinton. At that point Mr. Mendoza ordered his wife not to say anything until she consulted an attorney.

Typical. Liberals can say and do what they want to Conservatives. But a conservative can't even look at a liberal wrong.

After a little more digging around the internet it appears that the name of the teacher at North Rowan High is Tanya Dixon-Neely. Its not the same teacher as the video I just recently posted here. Big problem in North Carolina schools.

I finally watched the video, and judging from the way she talks, I am surprised that she made it through college. Wow, does she sound so stupid.

At the end she says that she can't allow anyone to say negative things about any President, past or present. So she is consistent there. Although she seriously needs to learn the law before she opens her mouth.

This kind of crap has been going on for decades. When I was in junior high I was "taught" by one history teacher that the US was "defeated" by Vietnam, that Republicans started the war, and that it was all Nixon's fault. Of course I later learned on my own the truth of the matter. Democrat War, LBJ's fault it got out of hand, and Nixon got the war stopped with a stalemate cease fire. Of course the commies in N. Vietnam violated the cease fire treaty, and the commies in the US Congress refused to defend and uphold the treaty. The Dems start the war, escalate it, organize the defeat and takeover of S. Vietnam, and them blame the Republicans for it in the media and schools in the decades following it.

If you look. All the modern wars we been in since Woodrow Wilson except, I think two? Were started during a democratic presidency.

I had an English teacher in 1985 who taunted the boys in her classes that they would soon be shipped off to Nicaragua to fight Ortega, and it was our parents' fault for voting for Reagan over Mondale.  One of the kids' father was a city councilman, and through back channels he made that woman feel some serious pain. It was wonderful.

My History Teacher and Current Affairs Teacher all through High School was and is a Classic Liberal, the overwhelming majority of the kids in my class were/are conservative, but he was the best Teacher that I ever had, he would discuss issues with us, never tried to change our mind, never belittled our opinions.

BTW Rush is talking about this issue now!

Wasn't it just last week that the DUmmies were accusing North Carolina of being filled with backward, ignorant shitheads?

In this case, I'd have to agree with them.

North Rowan teacher suspended

Monday, May 21, 2012 11:02 AM

Updated Monday, May 21, 2012 11:52 AM

Quote
SALISBURY — Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials suspended a North Rowan High School teacher Monday while investigating an incident caught on camera where the teacher told a student he could be arrested for speaking ill of President Barack Obama.

In a nearly 10-minute YouTube video shot by a student in the classroom, Tanya Dixon-Neely, a social studies teacher, told students criticism of the president could lead to jail time.

“Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?” she said of former President Bush. “Do you realize you are not supposed to slander the president?”

Dixon-Neely has been suspended with pay, according to Rowan-Salisbury School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil.

On Friday, Foil said the incident can be a learning experience.

“The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students.”

A Salisbury Post reporter went to Dixon-Neely's home for comment this morning, but no one answered the door. Calls to her number have gone unanswered and there is no answering machine.

The video went viral over the weekend and viewership jumped from about 1,000 views to more than 168,000 Monday morning.
