Another moron borrows > $100K for an undergrad degree

I can't imagine graduating college owing $900 a month

I can't imagine even owing $900 a month on anything other than rent/mortgage.

Or Ding Dongs.

I'm reading this article from the NYTimes and I'm just stunned but this is the reality of a college education - unless you are a trust fund baby or have the grades for a massive scholarship your life is going to suck. What's worse is that the job market absolutely sucks and it's almost impossible to find a decent job that will include healthcare. Take way the healthcare plan recently passed and now college graduates are saddled with the full cost of healthcare if they can't be on their parents plans anymore.

How can anyone sit there and say this is ok - to start our young adults out in the world massively in debt. Mitt Romney's plan - just borrow from your parents.

At this point my advice to any non-trust fund/little scholarship graduate - do your first 2 years of college at a community college. All colleges are going to make you take core classes like English or Math or a Language - classes that are needed for you to graduate but not a part of your degree. Take them somewhere cheap where you might be able to still live at home and maybe work parttime. $50k a year for college is just not worth it - not for those non-degree classes.

Read the article, you *******ed moron. It makes clear that the student and her parents were sucked in by (probably liberal) professors. Professors couldn't give a shit how much you borrow - as long as you go there and they get to slurp coffee all day instead of being productive.

Oh here is the article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/13/business/student-loans-weighing-down-a-generation-with-heavy-debt.html?_r=1

A Generation Hobbled by the Soaring Cost of College

DA, Ohio — Kelsey Griffith graduates on Sunday from Ohio Northern University. To start paying off her $120,000 in student debt, she is already working two restaurant jobs and will soon give up her apartment here to live with her parents. Her mother, who co-signed on the loans, is taking out a life insurance policy on her daughter.
Multimedia

Ms. Griffith, 23, wouldn’t seem a perfect financial fit for a college that costs nearly $50,000 a year. Her father, a paramedic, and mother, a preschool teacher, have modest incomes, and she has four sisters. But when she visited Ohio Northern, she was won over by faculty and admissions staff members who urge students to pursue their dreams rather than obsess on the sticker price.

“As an 18-year-old, it sounded like a good fit to me, and the school really sold it,” said Ms. Griffith, a marketing major. “I knew a private school would cost a lot of money. But when I graduate, I’m going to owe like $900 a month. No one told me that.”

I also see alot of private colleges going belly up. I mean they are going to start losing students if they can't afford the tuition.

What is SO HARD about not borrowing money you probably can't pay back?

The school probably had an 0bama lookalike who winked at her and promised lots of weed and cock if she attended.

Colleges should start advertising free contraception. According to Sandra Fluke that would be a windfall for the college crowd.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I just don't get it.  I made sure I paid for my school before the school year each and every time.  I try to do that in life instead of having credit.  A little Dave Ramsey class for $99 bucks would be a great graduation gift for some of our youth.

Well, you could work first, then go to college...in fact if your work was enlisting in a uniformed service, you could kill two birds with one stone...

Ain't no way I'm co-signing a student loan for the kids.  No way, no how.

No one told you that? You did not ask?  Your parents did not tell you?  You yourself could not figure it out?  WTF are you doing in college then?

Wouldn't be prudent. Not at this time. Not at this juncture. (Say it like Dana Carvey).

She has an undergraduate degree in overly educated stoopidity.

I bet this is one lesson she learns and not soon forget.......I could be wrong, we are talking about DUmmie offspring here.

That floored me, too.  Nobody?  Not her parents, not herself?  What are they doing in math class these days?  Coloring?  Why are these kids so damned stupid?  And look at the overtones of victimhood in her statement.  It's somebody else's fault!  They didn't tell me!  So I shouldn't have to pay this back!

After reading the article again to find out what the degree was in, I do have to say at least she has a chance of finding work in her field.

I have no clue where this generation gets their mentality from...
Case in point:My eldest niece is a stay at home mom...takes care of two other children besides her own and is a deulah(asst to a midwife)....ok fine whatevs....

My sister's other daughter is at UNH of which my sister is CIO/CFO of the UNH system, so somewhat of a discount. My sister wants her(my niece) to work during her summer vacation(quite rightly so). My niece is balking, saying she only wants to work a few hours a week for three days, so she can hang out with her friends...(who also will be working)

My mother, sister and I have always worked. I had chores, homework, girlscouts, field hockey and a job when i was in hs. I am sure many of you had that much and more....

DUmbass should have gone to a state school. I graduated with my Bachelors this past weekend and have about $15,000 in loans over 4 years. That's what I get for enlisting and using my GI Bill and Hazlewood benefits for most of it.

Hint, hint, DUmbass.

I agree, however DUmmies would never make it.

Not sure I would wish a DUmmie on any basic training instructor.

Then again the DUmmie could always serve as an example to the rest of the noobs as what not to do.
