Remember those rebate checks W was so proud of sending us?

Rachel, in her brilliant way, pointed out last night that the Obama administration also gave us a rebate. However, they did it in a smarter way, of course. They gave it in smaller increments through our pay checks, which meant that instead of receiving a check of a few hundred dollars that many just saved for a rainy day, Americans are getting a small amount weekly or monthly and are more likely to spend it and stimulate the economy.

The problem Rachel pointed out is that the Obama administration has done a poor job of telling the American people about it! W announced his rebate with great fanfare just like his "Mission Accomplished" moment.

How many Americans think of the small amount more they are receiving in their pay checks as a rebate and give Obama credit for it? Very few.

I remember all the bitching and moaning that people who aren't tax payers didn't get a check back then. Funny I don't hear any bitching that people who don't work don't get this money from 0bama.

They act as if the $40 actually means something, when in reality that little bit of change is canceled out by high gas prices, high grocery prices, and the horrible economy. I would rather have a strong economy than $40.

Obama, "I'm going to give you $40 dollars of your money back so I can neccessarily drive up the cost of energy to take $100+ of your money away from you. ...and if you can't see what a great fellow I am for doing that to you, it's Bush's fault."

Bush had 5% unemployment including those not reporting.

What's Obama got?

I do believe it was Nancy Pelosi that pushed for this "stimulus" and since they had the majority then, George Bush went along with it.  That was about the time that I really began to look at what the democrats had in mind for this country.

We bought a pool with Bushs tax rebate, Obamas tax rebate goes to pay higher gas prices, which rebate is more fun for us personally?

The actual savings i FICA is only $40 per month or $20/per two week paycheck. It all comes from NOT fully funding Social Security. Which party wants to end Social Security? The democrat party and they are doing it.

How much "smarter" will you think this is when it comes tim for you to collect social security and you're told it's defunct because of a tax holiday Obama gave you 10 years before?

You DO realize that the tax holiday Obama gave you was money not put into Social Security don't you?

Don't you?

Exactly.  We paid for my wife's master's with the Bush rebate--with Obama's, we're paying for gasoline.

Actually I believe it was the summer of 2001 when the checks went out, it wasn't a stimulus, but a refund to the taxpayers since we had been running a surplus. The dems howled that it was unfair that only taxpayers got the money.

Real 5% unemployment is near full employment. The 5% not employed either won't take a job, neither would any employer be content with having their work ethic.

There was the one 2001 and one in 2007 each about $300.

Which reminds me. Those super huge surpluses that we had, how come the debt never went down? Because it just went to NEW government spending. Look at the deficit and all it did was go flatline for about 7 qtrs.

I thought we got 1 in 2002? I think we got like $700? or $900?

I forgot about the 2007 one.

The 2007 one is the only one I remember.  My husband & I received $600 and we put it towards a new bedroom set.  The one we had was a hand-me-down and was falling apart.

Only you morons would get excited about the President de-funding Social Security.  If Bush had tried Barry's bullshit "payroll tax cut", you would have lost your damn minds.  As it is, Obama has put SS that much closer to insolvency.

Go ahead and cheer, stupid.

I figure Obama will 'fix' this by proposing that people be allowed to move their Social Security into riskier investments with higher profit potential. And the primitives will swoon over it.

I forgot about the 2007 one.

So did I, considering I didn't get one.  I made too much, whereas in 2001, if you paid in, you got something back.

Funny how that works.
