Rep. Allen West (R-FL), the Tea Party favorite and one of only two African-American Republicans in Congress, closed out an address to local Republicans by solemnly invoking the name of a Confederate general, Stonewall Jackson, at a county GOP’s Lincoln Day Dinner.

West spoke on Saturday to the Broward County GOP dinner, as something of a farewell address — he is switching to a nearby district, after his own was redrawn in a manner that made it more Democratic. During his address, West denounced liberals and progressives for wanting to “enslave” Americans into dependency on government programs, such as food stamps.

At the end of the speech, West invoked the name of the famous Confederate military officer: “So, as I close tonight, I want to remind you of the great farewell speech of Confederate General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson — when he bid farewell to his brigade, as he was elevated by Robert E. Lee.

“And he said to his brigade that they would always be first in his heart. Broward County will always be first in my heart, and I will never forget you. God bless you all, and God keep you. Thank you.”

I have a theory... I believe the dems/libs are scared of black folks that do good for themselves. Why? Because almost always they do it without affirmative action. And they are almost always conservative.

After reading this I have to wonder...who is the racist here.

I guess it has to be automatic if a black man is conservative he must be an uncle tom.

I find that to be sad, how can you be a progressive and black and be comfortable with that?

Military History obviously wasn't one of 11-butthead's strong suites.

The Generals and officers that resigned their comissions in the Union Army and served in the CSA were basically men without a country after the war.  They had to apply for and sign amnesty petitions that had to be approved by President Jackson.  To a lot of people in the Union they were considered traitors and people having comitted acts of treason.

I know for a fact LTC West was never accused of that nor had to sign any kind of amnesty petition.

Oh and FWIW...LTC West retired with fully military benefits and rights after 20 years of service.

If they were truly as "progressive" and as non racist as they try to convince themselves and everyone else they are, they would NOT use such racist language. There's NO reason they can't say the same thing without bringing such disgusting language into the conversation. That blacks, regardless of political persuasion, would let this kind of thing stand...well guess that tells you how oppressed and intimidated they are of their liberal white masters. Allen West is brave enough to buck the system, to think for himself and for that to have vicious attacks leveled at him from the left. What the hell is wrong with these people? They're the most hateful, vile people on the planet and they aren't capable of the self examination required to see just how hateful they are.

To a certain extent I'm happy when they reveal themselves in this manner.  It pulls back the curtain and lets people see the true ugliness that is at the core of all Liberals...otehrwise they'd be able to get away with the lie that they are the all loving color blind big hearted compassionate souls they claim to be.

Shall we compare Colonel West, who was doing his duty as he saw fit to protect his troops from ambush, to another current U.S. Representative and hero of the Left from an adjoining district in Broward County, one Alcee Hastings? The same Alcee Hastings who, after being appointed a U.S. District Judge, was impeached, convicted and removed by Congress on bribery and perjury charges stemming from a racketeering trial he was adjudicating?

I'll take the decorated soldier any day over that scum.
