Pretty much, wasp.  Amazing how guys like us "only joined the military because we couldn't make it anywhere else" (according to the DUmmies) and yet we're the ones who tend to do far better than average?

Because we actually have to accomplish something and learn how to work together as well as on our own.  I don't know about you, but I really enjoyed the assignments where I was on my own.  Being an independent operator from time to time made me sharper by having to adapt and succeed without a supporting group.  I was able to take those experiences and make my younger troopers better at working in smaller, lighter groups so we (as a Division) could be a lot more flexible.

Bottom line?  All that I learned, either in service schools or by practice, translated into a position in a company where I make more money, have more freedom, and less interference.  I wonder why it is that a group who is so "educated" can't seem to figure out how to be successful without someone holding their hand but this knuckle-dragger has it pretty much whooped?

I don't like the fact that there are still far too many vets who don't get into the job market right out of the military (vet unemployment is 12 percent) but a lot of that is our guys not understanding HOW to market themselves as much as HR/recruiting laziness...(what's an 11B?  Infantry?  How does that help our company?)

I agree and would say that it is probably more a product of ignorance on how to sell oneself than anything else.  Then again, I picked a rate that I knew would directly translate to something on the outside so I can't say for sure.

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

That's because it's harder to join and stay in the military than stand in line waiting for a handout. You learn how to work with other people and in a team, and that in most ways you are not as special and wonderful as the coddlers of the world claim you are.

Basic training will very quickly melt a snowflake mentality.

It would be interesting to hear that Medieval History PhD discuss how the Black Death can be traced back to the Bush Family.

I'm sure the Bushes are in there someplace.

The guy says though his degree carries prestige, you can't eat prestige.

You'd think that would've occurred to him when he was charting his path.

I think that has a lot to do with it, but even still when people saw "Nuclear Power School" on my resume they didn't know how to deal.  They saw nuke first, everything else just kinda fell off.

That being said, networking is an incredible tool and one of the main reasons I got out after my "good deal" of shore duty (recruiting.)  I knew sales, and I knew people in the industries and companies in which I wanted to work.  I wish service members would start marketing themselves 12-18 months before they get out if at all possible.  The drop in vet unemployment would be incredible.

Recruiting?  Ugh!

I did only one shore duty in 22 years (instructor) and told the detailer that if at any time the words "recruiter" and "only billet available" fell out of his mouth, I would take X number of years / fleet experience and walk.

Thankfully, they never really called my bluff....   :-)

Well I wonder why? Let us look at the best bets for jobs there dummie.

best bet for jobs

Now let us look at the highest paying occupations:

funny, no history or womyns major degrees here

Now let's look at 50 best jobs in America. Notice number 2. College prof. Doesn't say anything about the demand though. Good work if you can get it. Is there demand for it? Don't look like it.

Don't see no history majors here either

Sorry you spent however many years studying for a degree that is worthless there dummie. Maybe you should have learned a skill like plumbing.

Anybody hear that pipsqueak on Hannity when Sean tried to get him a job? Sean offered to get him a $15/hr job, and the 99%er told him he wouldn't except anything less than 80 to 100 thou a year! All the while tellin' us capitalism doesn't work!

I wanted to throw a brick at the guy thru the damn radio!

"Oh the world owes me a livin'.........."

These punks need to have their asses kicked up between their shoulders! Maybe then they'd get a ****in' job and quit livin' off us!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!
