Summer of 2010 I was in Philly and was recommended to the Brauhaus Schmitz for good German food and beer. There were four of us in the party and it would seem like four retired military guys would be pretty easy to please as long as you brought us food, beer, and gave a smile every now and again. Well, that seemed like a little too much for our waitress.
We told her to split the bill (she didn't), they were out of Aventinus (not a major blow, but it made me unhappy), she was snotty (bitchy, not sick), and told us she was too busy to split the bill at the end even though we had told her to at the beginning.

Instead of arguing with this prissy little bitch, I pulled my card and told her we just want to get out of here, put the bill on mine. Apparently, that was her "trigger" to set her mouth running. I had to stop her in mid bitch to say "Just put it on the damn card!" and gave her the hardest "daddy" look I had.
She came back with four separate checks.
Now, I have been in shitty customer service jobs (busboy) and understand how frustrating it can be to deal with people who don't give a damn since they aren't in their home. They let their kids throw food everywhere (ala Gina), they're demanding, they're messy themselves, etc. I get it, I've had to clean up after it. Which is one reason why I wipe the table before we leave, make sure there is no trash on the floor, make my children act like civilized human beings instead of animals, and stack the empty dishes on the end of the table.
I value someone who can keep a good demeanor and be attentive when dealing with several tables of assholes at one time while dealing with mine so I like to treat them well. I've tipped damn near the amount of the bill in the past to those servers who have done their complete best to make sure we were taken care of and it pays off, I've had a couple of different servers argue over which one of them got my family in their section (having a reputation as a good customer and tipper will guarantee good service). If you give me poor service, it will be reflected in the tip section of the check.
The snotty little girl at the Brauhaus Schmitz? She got a tip: Throttle back your attitude or find another line of work.
