The last time a story like this cropped up (a few months ago), it was a hoax by the waitress.

One thing I really like about Japan - zero tipping. Taxi drivers, bellhops, waiters, doormen, zero, and if you offer a tip they're embarrassed.

Of course, everything is expensive as hell.

What a hard concept for the DUmmies to comprehend. I'm a pretty good tipper, but treat me and my girlfriend like crap and you'll get nothing, like the waitress at BWW found out last year.

Was watching Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals last year between Vancouver and Boston. We were probably the only to Van fans in the restaurant with a lot of Bruins fans around us. Our waitress comes up and starts telling us we need to leave because of my jersey, that other people didn't like it, didn't want there to be a fight, etc. Since I'm not talking to anybody, I call BS and she says that some guys at the next table paid her to come over and do that. Got the check, crossed through the tip line and paid for two meals and a few beers. I probably would have tipped her 30% since the service was pretty good for being busy, but I don't think you should mess with your customers like that, especially ones not causing problems.

I was a waitress one time.  This guy came in with his 2 kids.  He was letting them throw food and crackers all over the restaurant.  He ordered spaghetti.  I saw his kid for the last time spill a drink and he just acted like nothing happened.  I plopped his spaghetti (dropped the plate) and it splattered him and his kids.  I was fired but MAN THAT FELT GOOD  :lmao:

Ill tell you what my friends & I did.

We put the tip, in coins, inside a water glass. - About 15% BTW., Filled it with ice water from what was left on the table and flipped it upside down and left. If the waiter was smart, he got a bowl and slid the glass to the end of the table, spilling the water and coins into it. If he was stupid, which I suspect he was, He lifted the glass and drenched everything.

The waiter was a total douchebag. It was easy to tell he was doing it for the pot and Cheeto money. The service was slow, he screwed up the order, and he reeked.

Similar story here - Tipping is something that is generally not done. There's usually a "tip jar" at the register but it often goes unused.

We have a pretty high minimum wage - and prices for service reflect that. As does attitude of staff, unfortunately.
