OS - how did we miss this?

Or did I just miss this?   Anyone know what Steve's faith is?

Quote
Steve Dawes

Years Ward Resident: 5½

Age: 55

Occupation / Employer: Wastewater Operator City of Omaha

Website: http://stevedawes2012.com

Elected Offices Held: None

Tell us something about yourself.

I was a Life Scout in Troop 320. I was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. I have served as a Deacon and Session member at Miller Park and Florence Presbyterian Church. I also served as youth director at Florence. My faith plays an important role in my life. In 2001, I founded the Indian Hills Theater Preservation Society and served as Chairman. That experience and the resultant network contribute to my knowledge and interest when working to improve Historic Olde Towne – the heart of Ward 1. My wife Marta and I have owned our Bellevue Cemetery web site since long before moving to Bellevue: http://www.steveandmarta.com/graveyards/bellevue/bellevue_1.htm. I’ve also been a faithful follower of the Bellevue East athletic programs for 12 years.

How do you think people view Bellevue?

Residents view Bellevue as a diverse, growing city. It has a public school system a level above the surrounding communities. It is safe. It is a wonderful place to raise a family. It has a rich history as Nebraska’s first city, if you’re willing to explore it. From a forest to a military base, Bellevue has so much to offer. You just have to experience Bellevue for yourself.

What should Bellevue do with Haworth Park?

FEMA and Bellevue already have some projects under consideration. I agree with upgrading the damaged asphalt parking lot to concrete if city funding for the difference can be found. Some questions still need to be answered by FEMA such as silt removal versus using the silt. Closing the marina was a good start, considering all the troubles it has had for years. Rebuilding the boat ramp brings in more than just Bellevue residents, which gives Bellevue merchants a chance to sell to out of town visitors. Relocating several items north of 370 to higher ground is a no-brainer. I can remember way back when a private restaurant that looked like a river boat was a great attraction to the area. Something to think about.

If elected, what is the first issue you want to address?

Work with the Legislature to amend State of Nebraska statute: Section 14-2116(2). Unlike the rest of Bellevue, most of the homes and businesses in Ward I get their natural gas from Black Hills Energy. That means Ward I pays over 20% more than the rest of Bellevue to heat our homes etc. In the state statute mentioned above, we only need to change the wording from “metropolitan class” to “a population of 38,000.” The legislature used that figure to force Bellevue to move from a volunteer to full-time fire department.  With that statute change, MUD can then use eminent domain to automatically take over the gas service of Black Hills Energy in Bellevue. Ward I should pay the lower rate like the rest of Bellevue.

Why should voters elect you to the City Council?

I will work with the council and mayor to build a consensus to do the right things for Bellevue’s future. Putting Nebraska’s first city first. I’ve been active in Bellevue and Olde Towne activities since we moved here. I will continue to promote activities that attract people (and jobs) to historic Olde Towne. Having a network of friends in historic preservation from my Indian Hills Theater days is a plus for getting grants etc. I’ve worked as a public servant for over 20 years. I can see problems from both a city worker AND a city councilman’s perspective. Sometimes the workers do know a way to save tax payers money, but get ignored. I’m willing to look at every angle.

OS said, "I will NOT work with the council and mayor to build a consensus but instead a smelly group demanding to do the right wrong things to the detriment of Bellevue’s future."

Steves a democrat and we know they lie so I had to fix a few things for him.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I don't see anything in there about fixing potholes; about lessening the onerous burden of local taxes, emasculating the too-heavy hand of government, reining in the power of the public unions, &c., &c., &c.

You know, things the voters of Bellevue would like to hear.

Who needs that when he hands out free mini tacos?  :rotf:
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

If the government was responsible for handing out mini tacos, you'd have to fill out three pages of forms (no ID... that's racist) and it would show up a month and a half later in the mail, stale and cold.

Anyone know what Steve's faith is?

The big guy's involvement with Presbyterianism is all in the long-ago past tense; he probably hasn't been inside a church since attending Sunday school as a little lad.....like maybe 47 years ago.

Since all his other "accomplishments" are from his childhood and teenaged years, this was probably put into the mix, having happened way back then.

It still stymies me, though, that the big guy never mentions something that could attract votes among the people of Bellevue--not enough to win (or to come even close), but more votes nonetheless.

The big guy's been married to the same woman for 34 years.  That's a big big plus.

The big guy's a family man who obviously cares about his children and grandchildren.  That's another plus.

Family values.

I dunno why the big guy omits this stuff, as it wouldn't hurt him, only help him.

But whatever.....

He should tell the voters how he would meld his lifelong devotion to socialism with his duties on the city council.

And he should ask them to read more about his record at www.electstevedawes.com

I wonder who told him to change his wording about his love of the Bellevue High School, girls basketball squad to this?

We didn't miss it.

We just knew it was socialist horse shit, and ignored it.
Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.
