We're going to a friends' place today for a cookout and whatever else develops.

I do know that at 5 PM, they observe a tragic Mexican holiday. Back in the 1700s, Mexico badly needed spices and some salad dressings including vinaigrettes and mayonnaise. The people were starving. The supply ship from Spain was on its way to Mexico when it was attacked and sunk by British warship. The loss of everything on the ship, including the mayonnaise, is observed every year on the same date.


The observance is called,

It was the French, not the British. Financed of course by the French mustard monopoly, Grey pupon.
