Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys has died at the age of 47 after a long battle with cancer, website GlobalGrind reported Friday.

The news could not be independently confirmed.

Yauch was diagnosed and treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009.

The Beastie Boys were one of the first rock bands to embrace rap, successfully crossing over with the multi-platinum 'Licensed to Ill' in 1986.

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just last month. Yauch did not attend.

I saw this on MSNBC, too.  If you like that sort of noise music (remember, you can't spell "crap" without "rap"), it's not a good day.

They were one of the pioneers of Rap. Their type I didn't mind so much. It is the gansta rap that I have an issue with. Rip.

I knew he had cancer. But I didn't know it was that bad.

I don't think the Beastie Boys were ever into that kind of stuff like today's "artist" are.  But I like to be naive about that because they were my favorite rap/rock group growing up.
