I'm so proud
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:10:06 PM »
Had my middle 'un out back with me this past weekend helping me to build a chicken run (they taste like ptarmigan).

While we were sinking a post I noted to him how, if we still lived in the city we wouldn't have the land to do such things and even if we did we wouldn't be able to because we would have to get permits, licenses and inspections.

"Whatever happened to freedom," he replied with audible disgust.

That's awesome -:)
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

Spread my work ethic, not my wealth.

Forget change, bring back common sense.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

No doubt those ptarmigans chickens will be the best tasting ones ever.

Thankfully my neighbors are cool about me planting fruit trees, berry bushes, and a vegetable garden.  No way in hell I'd ever be able to get away with one-tenth of what I do in an urban setting.

I have all that in an urban setting.  One of my neighbors has a goat, and some others have chickens.

That is so cute. I applaud him. Kids say some of the coolest things. Just yesterday my daughter was saying how much of an idiot obama is. When I asked her why she thinks that, She said because, and that she can't say what she really thinks of him because she will get slapped  :lmao:

Even though I'm to the right of Augusto Pinochet I don't even sermonize. I certainly voice my opinions and defend them but I believe that unless people evolve their conclusions on their own there will be no validity to what they believe.

Amen, preach. Hallelujah!

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with a small sermon now and again. Sometimes the youngsters demand it.

I prefer a more Socratic style.

Case in point: I asked him, not long ago, "If you have to rely on another person for your food, housing, healthcare, education and retirement, are you truly free?"

"No."

"If you demand another person provide for your food, housing, healthcare, education and retirement, are THEY truly free?"

The look in his eye when he realized the conclusion was most telling.

Just don't take any hemlock if you get a blank stare next time.

Actually, I was thinking of the final words of Socrates when he said, "I drank what?"
