The problem with an ignorant populace...

Ignorant does not mean they are stupid. It means they do not have the facts with which to make informed decisions.

For whatever reasons, they do not have the time to educate themselves to what is going on in the world. They become suckers that are easily manipulated by partisan division. They either take the Democratic side or they take the Republican side. They depend on their favorite media people or their favorite politicians for the information they receive. Neither side is beyond manipulation.

The average person does not know how much we are spending on wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and other places? They do not know how much it cost us to save the banking system, and some say, the entire capitalist system? They do not know how much debt Obama has created versus how much he inherited? They do not realize that they have received additional taxcuts for the last three years.

The average person does not understand which politician has voted for what legislation that affects their lives? They only listen to their favorite TV station or their favorite politicians for their side of the issue and they accept it without question. Therein lies the problem.

They are making decisions on lies and distortions because they are ignorant. This is the average voter in America. They are uneducated and uninformed. They are partisan puppets, just waiting for their masters to pull the strings.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002595475

They are 0bama voters too. They swallow the lie that things are getting better meanwhile ignoring that they still can't find either a job or a better job than they have now. They are buying the bullshit that gas prices have nothing to do with Steven Chu and his desire for high gas prices. They believe that the $40 every 2 weeks is what is keeping them from being homeless. They believe that only the government can take care of them. They believe that if you say 0bama is doing a horrible job that you must be a racist. They believe that 0bama deserves another term. Yes Kentuck we have an ignorant populace and you are part of that.

5. A big part of the problem is we don't have a MSM who take their responsibility to

educate the masses on current events in an unbiased way seriously any more.

When I was growing up in the forties and fifties, if you read a newspaper everyday and one of the weekly news mags that you found on the stands, and listened to the news on the radio or TV you were pretty well informed. Today to get that kind of thorough and unbiased journalistic stories of what is going on in the world, you have to wade through the miasma of alternative media that is hidden on blogs, websites like this and obscure cable TV news channels. Liberal radio shows are another challenge. In many areas like mine only one low frequency station carries shows like Thom Hartmann and those shows are often pre-empted for games.

What is out there and accessible to the public is all the propaganda dribble put out by various right wing think tanks. This is why the average person is so misinformed because they don't have time to do the dredging through the trash to get to the gold.

You are right, but not in the way you think. the MSM has been carrying the water from the day he announced he was running. The MSM has gone out of their way to paint Zimmerman as a KKK grand wizard. The MSM has gone out of their way to help protect 0bama from being called out for high gas prices, high unemployment and record deficits. They went through Sarah Palin's underwear drawer in 2008 and didn't ask any questions about 0bama.

This morning, some official was on C-SPAN from Liberty University and he was just chilling. His self presentation was that of a serious academic and everything he said was laced in code and in itself specious. Even worse, there sat Peter Sven, interviewing him as if he was the president of Harvard and lending legitimacy to this horrible, destructive man.

You are the Queen of disinformation, all the shit that spews from your fingertips on DU is astonishing.

8. I blame Faux and other RW media.

They flood the airwaves with misinformation, exaggerations and outright lies non-stop 7x24x365. Its no wonder so many are ignorant.

They are the only ones shedding the light on the damage that liberalism and 0bama has done to our country. Since you don't like the message you label it as nothing but lies, but if you looked around you, you would see that it aint us lying.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

The problem with an ignorant populace... is that they vote democrat.

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Stern's man on the street interviews about how the voters wanted Sarah Palin to be Obama's VP was classic. They should have then asked them if her comments on "I can see Russia from my house!!" would have concerned them then  :rotf:

This sort of argumentation is rampant at DU and one of the reasons I despise liberals. Granted, it happens too much on the right as well but for liberals it's all they have.

All we hear is, "You're ignorant. You're a hater. You're morally offensive." as if these declarations are sufficient.

They'll be happy to tell you that you are ignorant...

...but they won't tell you WHY you are ignorant.

In fact, the label "ignorant" excuses them from further dscussion as in, "there's no point in talking to you, you're just ignorant."

If they tried to explain WHY you are ignorant they would then be subject to questions and examination. It is one thing to say, "You are ignorant." but so much more is risked by saying, "You are ignorant because..."

It gets to the point where you have no choice but to conclude "You're ignorant" is just another way of saying "I cannot refute you, so I will label then dismiss you."

EMataHari is the perfect example of this. Her worldview is so fragile the best she can offer 90% of the time is "LOL." She can't even defend socialism with, "You're just ignorant of what socialism is" because even that invites an avalanche of historical facts of why only the insane or self-serving seek to re-impose the waste and tyranny that is socialsim...and no, she is not insane.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Funny you should say that:

A consistent media contention is that liberals and Democrats are far more informed about politics than conservatives and Republicans.

A recent study from the Pew Research Center quite debunked this myth:

Republicans fare substantially better than Democrats on several questions in the survey, as is typically the case in surveys about political knowledge. The largest gaps are in awareness of which party is more supportive of reducing the size and scope of the federal government (30 points) and which party is more conservative (28 points).

Republicans also are 21 percentage points more likely than Democrats to know that the GOP is more supportive of drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. [...]

Republicans also are more familiar with the partisan affiliation of two leading Democrats – one from the present, Nancy Pelosi, and one from the past, Franklin Roosevelt. Three-quarters (75%) of Republicans know that Pelosi is a Democrat, compared with 59% of Democrats. And while 73% of Republicans identify FDR as a Democrat, just 58% of Democrats do so.

Independents also are less knowledgeable than Republicans about the parties’ positions on a number of issues and the affiliation of some political leaders. Notably, independents (71%) are less likely than Republicans (85%) or Democrats (84%) to know that John F. Kennedy was a Democrat.

There is ignorance and there is stupidity. That thread is a complete proof that those that post at the DUmp are stupid not ignorant.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

You're morally offensive

If anyone is morally offensive, it is the liberal douchegobblers. They are the ones who agree with abortion, they are the ones who agree with gay marriage. That is total immorality. They claim to be christian but are for what I stated. Tell me douchegulpers, where in the bible does it say that gay marriage is o.k, and where in the bible does it say that murdering an unborn human life is o.k?

Liberals, against capital punishment, but for abortion on demand.
Liberals, against cutting down a hundred year old tree, but for abortion on demand.
Liberals, have to save the life of a bird, but for abortion on demand.
Liberals, against using fur from an animal for clothing, but for abortion on demand.
Liberals, fought to keep a turn pike out of my area because of a single spotted owl, but for abortion on demand.
Liberals, against hunting and killing deer for food, but for abortion on demand.

Liberals, the fabric of immorality and beyond.
