Levon Helm "in final stages of cancer"

I couldn't care less about celebrity lives, deaths, weddings, divorces, opinions, etc.

But for some reason, I'm a huge fan of Levon Helm and the Band, and this news really has hit me. I saw him in concert a few years ago at a small venue in Philly called the Electric Factory. It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. He's so damn talented a musician, such a great, soulful vocalist--even after throat cancer--that I've become a huge fan.

This is indeed sad news. He is a local to me and one of my customers as is Garth. He is truly an American treasure, a great talent and a was always a super nice guy when I was working in his home.
God I hate the cancer! When it comes back after a noble fight its horrible!

Levon's voice made covers so much better. I LOVE this version of Springsteen's song "Atlantic City."

The Rock of Ages live album, IMHO, is better than The Last Waltz, as far as straight Band songs go.

The Band singer/drummer Levon Helm -- famous for hits like "The Weight" ("Take a load off Annie" ...) -- has died after a long battle with throat cancer.

Helm -- diagnosed with throat cancer in the late 90s -- passed away this afternoon in NYC, surrounded by his friends and bandmates.

 RIP Levon.

This video was made on Jack Gills farm right down the road from me. Home of the best corn in the world IMHO.  His son John is a Fellow bamboo rod maker that I hook up with once in a while to share tips.
