Obama says he'll debate McCain in townhalls this summer
« on: May 12, 2008, 12:21:35 PM »
May 10 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said he'd be willing to campaign jointly with Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, and debate him in town-hall style formats.

``I think that's a great idea,'' Obama, 46, told reporters in Bend, Oregon, today as he campaigned ahead of the state's May 20 primary. ``Obviously we would have to think through the logistics on that, but to the extent that should I, should I be the nominee, if I have the opportunity to debate substantive issues before the voters with John McCain, that's something that I am going to welcome.''

Obama, an Illinois senator, was responding to a question citing reports that McCain's advisers have suggested the two should campaign together this summer, debating at town hall meetings without a moderator.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

This ought to be good. Haven't we discerned that, without a prepared speech, he's about as eloquent as a monkey?

He's a stuttering, stammering, "uh" machine. Yeah, this should be good!

either he backs out, or there will be a gaffe every other week.  this is the guy that struggled with
the concept of capital gains taxes in his last debate with hillary.  doesn't he realize that mccain
has been doing this kind of forum for years?  he's going to get smoked.

the obamese and obamites are used to him not saying anything.  hopefully the rest of the
country is immune to bullsnit.

exactly.  without a prepared speech, everything will be "an example of the old washington way of doing things, where nothing
ever gets done."

if this guy gets elected, we're going to dream of the days when nothing ever got done.

If they go toe to toe in a townhall, it will be McCain's to lose. As long as he stays on point and doesn't get rattled, he'll smoke him.

I was initially terrified of imagining mccain and Baroque Obama on the same stage.  one is cool, young, polished, and confident;  the other always looks a little uncomfortable, has a habit of talking himself into corners, and has some fairly goofy mannerisms.  his "orgasm laugh" is a good one.  I can never tell if he suddenly burst into laughter at his own joke, or if something super peculiar just happened;  there is just too much twitching, jerking, and making of strange snorty noises for me be sure.

still, if you listen to them, mccain always knows is shit, and Baroque never does.  but you could say the same thing about BO and hillary, and look who just walked away with the nomination.  thank God we don't award electoral college delegates the same way the democrats award convention delegates.
