Simply by not driving...

PSA: Do you drive a car? Because if you do, you are killing your kid

 with pollution.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002532314

Yup. You're killing your kid, apprently. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Moreover, you should probably go to jail.

Insensitive, murdering pricks.

Now that I have the jokes out of the way, you do know that everytime you feed your kid, you're poisioning him/her, right LA? Oh yeah, there are trace amounts of carcinogens in everything you eat. Trace amounts. You don't need to pay attention to that first word though. Doesn't matter. They're carcinogens, so they automatically = bad! :whatever: Use tanning lotion? You're suicidal. Brush your teeth? Call the hotline. Use any hair care products? I'm worried about you. You should talk to someone.

In closing...you're stupid. Pointy blank. Only thing I can really say.

59. I've ridden nothing but mopeds for five years now.

Just about 25,000 miles at 80 mpg, meaning I've burned only 313 gallons of gas and ten gallons of two-stroke oil in five years. It's dirtier than a car, but my ability to pollute is limited by time, physics, weather, and human fallibility. The longest ride I ever took in a day was 220 miles; it took thirteen hours, and it rained every minute.

Riding my moped is uncomfortably cold 250 days and every night of the year, with conditions similar to those one might experience in the crow's nest of a ship; other drivers hate me and routinely endanger me by acting aggressively toward me; I can't climb any grade above 6% faster than 12-20mph; I ride in a never-ending rain of cigarette butts, beer bottles, and invective; I have to run every red light or wait for other traffic because I am too light to trip the sensors; I can't keep up with traffic light patterns because they're usually set at or above the top speed of my bike; and many mopeds are also highly unreliable.

But it can be done, and it's the only way I can get to a job on the other side of town or in another town. The moped's real contribution to society is that they pretty much suck, so those who rely on them spend as little as possible time on the road.

I think I'll start using the car to get the mail from the box every day.  Of course that would mean walking past the mailbox on the porch, out to the drive and then driving across the yard back to the porch , getting the mail then putting the car back in the drive, and walking back past the mailbox to the house.  What the heck, if it kills some DUmmies, I'm happy to do it.

I don't know if this is limited to motorcycles or if it applies to all drivers, but in the motorcycle handbook it says that you can pass through a red light after ten seconds if there is no oncoming traffic.

One would think this would be a net benefit since a light cycle is usually 30 seconds or longer.

Always told my kids while they were growing up that I was going to kill them if their stupidity didn't first. Little did I know all I had to do was take them for a drive.  :whistling:
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

We're helping!!!   :-)  Now that we've moved out of town, we drive even more than we used to...and we burn our trash, too!

But my kid, now...not killing her so much.  She's out of town, breathing fresh country air.  She spends a lot more time outside now, getting healthy exercise...and that will just increase when we get enough brambles killed, cut and BURNED to move the horses home.  Cars don't kill kids, big cities and TVs do.

This is the sort of ridiculous hyperbole that undermines the environmental movement.  It is great if somebody is able to walk to the places they need to go, but that isn't always possible.  Cars are a fact of life, and even in their oh so precious Europe, people drive, especially rural people.  Trying to create a bus route through every rural are in the US would create far more pollution than simply having those people drive, in my estimation.

I'm a huge fan of protecting the environment, I love animals and I adore hiking, camping, gardening, and all sorts of outdoorsy stuff, but I'm practical.  I support improving technology to increase MPG's, I support walking places where it is feasible, but human life needs to be protected in the here and now, not just in the future.

I was just discussing pollution with another California transplant here in Nebraska, and we both agreed that here in Nebraska (a pretty conservative state) the pollution is vastly better than in California (a very blue state).  Amazing how being a liberal doesn't apparently actually cut down on pollution.  I suspect that it is the result of the fact they they tend to do a lot of "feel good" solutions about pollution.

AH aah but the worse of the problems are with the bicycle riders. Adults and Children alike.

All these folks that are not allowed to drive a car, cannot afford one, or ride for enjoyment, are the problem.

All these folks that have naturally no insurance on their bikes or the kids bikes are the problem. So some uninsured driver hits one on a bike Adult or Child, who pays the hospital bill ??? Who pays for repair of a bike or a brain injury to a child or adult by being hit by a hit and run or stolen car ??

We see the street people riding about on bikes with their belongs on the back, some driver of an auto or truck hits them . Destroys their only means of transportation to get their food stamps and live in a homeless shelter and hit the State Liqueur Store, 3 weeks in the hospital, who pays the bills???

Then we have folks laid off from work, no medical insurance and their 8 year old is hit by a drunk with insurance.
Take them to court and the insurance company says it is your fault for not making sure the child was wearing a helmet.

Lots of sides to this problem of transportation issue, most comes back on society that  excuses those that harms these Adults and Children.

So should we as people create more and more laws to PROTECT us or are we to be allowed to take the risks in life that may not end well for us and our children ????

BS, I take a risk just getting out of bed each day, most accidents happen in the home.   My choice in foot wear can cause me to slip down stairs improperly installed, Kitchen ware can burst into flames if untended, fire places can cause a chimney fire, not my fault the manufacture did not instruct me to have the flu cleaned every year.

Glass in baby food, good reason to yell, poison in baby formula good reason to yell, however if I break a tooth on an unpitted olive in a Greek salad, this is my problem as I should have expected to find a pit.

The gasoline engine was one of the greatest environment saving devices ever invented....just ask the people of New York City of about 1910.

Just think of all the horse shit in the streets back then.

Hence the reason the boardwalk was invented 2-3 feet above the the street level.

Some day Hollywood will make a realistic western movie to show  how people really lived in the days before gasoline motor cars and trucks.

The smells of the towns must have been simply awful until one got use to it.   Cow, horse, oxen, crap 18 inches deep or more, I wonder how people could cross the street in those days.   Then the smells of the outhouses for humans Yee Gads, no wonder people went west, north or south to get away from just the stench of other humans.

Off the top of my head I remember being told that the tradition of a bride carring a bouquet came about so the bride could put her nose in the flowers when the smell of the groom was too much for her.

What is wrong with Mopeds or scooters ?????  Dandie little machines that get one from here to there with little gas and are safer then a motorcycle that zooms about at 70 mph.  Most of Asia and Europe use them in congested areas and if one has need in the good weather faster then a bicycle.

We have a Professional medical woman in the next town that restores and sells the old and new VESPAS with side cars she has her dogs / with goggles ride in.  Most speeds in town are at 20- 40 mph and the scooters can keep up.

As the gas prices rise then the 8 months or so in the north that one can ride weather permitting, more and more of these things will be sold.

Police that on the East Coast that use bicycle patrols  at beach areas are switching over to scooters, and modified Mopeds for a faster responce time,  NYC and the OCW police had these small scooters used big time, easy to go around traffic , can be controlled at slower speeds then a Motorcycle, -----Try riding a hog at 15 mph. for 8 hours, exhausting.

Go on line to see the new innovated Mopeds and scooters coming on the market--then look at the Spider that your Grandmother can ride.
