More and more people wake up all the time

I ran into a former co-worker yesterday. She retired 2 or 3 years ago. When I asked her how she has been doing, she immediately started crying. She said she's been having health problems (didn't go into specifics) and had to go find a part time job to pay for her medical expenses, even though she HAS insurance. Her out of pocket costs are beyond what she can afford on her pension.

I have no idea what this woman's politics are. Never discussed them with her. She just never struck me as a very political person. But she said she had contacted the Obama campaign and was volunteering because she is so angry about the attacks on health care reform. She said she was so grateful that Obama had tried to do SOMETHING and the thought that it may all be taken away by the Supreme Court was just too much for her to think about.

I believe there are a lot of people like her in this country. They see the republicans attacking Obama's health care reform and don't like it. Sure it wasn't enough and the answer is definitely universal health care, but at least Obama tried to do something. Taking all of that away is just going to incense a lot of people like the woman I talked to yesterday.

I also met another woman this week who is incensed over the legislative attacks on women. She was looking for information about the local Democratic party and wants to get involved.

They are definitely waking up.

Well I saw a woman at Publix the other day she came right up to me and told me the story of how her and her husband had great health insurance until last year when the rates went up so high they can't afford it anymore, she said she isn't political but is calling up the Romney campaign and offering to volunteer to help in any way to get him elected.

I also met another woman so incensed on how her church was being forced to pay for birth control.

I can write bouncies too.

country into one wacky political party. I hope they fade into the sunset. I just find it difficult to believe the majority of Americans want this country to become the theocratic dystopia the republicans long for.

Most of the hate I see is coming from leftists.

Quote
Not Me
2. I had a brief discussion with a co-worker the other day along the same lines

She doesn't follow politics very closely, and we got talking about health care. She was pretty clueless as to what the Helath Care Act covered, and when I explained it, she got it, and supports it.

I also mentioned that there are a lot of well funded groups out to stand in the way of health care benefits extension, and told her that it will be a long battle. The first attempt, with (Hillary) Clinton was fiercely contested and didn't get very far. Then after 8 years of (Republican Bush) nothing was attempted. Then with Obama, more headway was made. She got the picture.

But it is amazing how people just don't have the time or the interest to take a look at things that impact them so personally.

I took the time to examine the 0bamcare bill and that is why I don't support it.

Every election season we go through a ton of bouncies, they do this to give themselves hope, then when they lose they scream fraud.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Wait a minute, you dumb bitch. If she's retired, wouldn't she be on government Medicare and if it's not working, wouldn't that be a government issue? Yet you're trying to put her on an even bigger government ponzi scheme? Am I reading that right?

Oh, and Obama CUT 500 billion from Medicare, idiot.

Under 0bama HellCare the woman wouldn't have those medical costs. She also would not have had the treatments either.

Win-Win under the biggest tax increase in our history sold as health care.

Weren't we told that obama care doesn't change anything except for single payer. So in other words the lady still wouldn't have the money to pay medical expenses. She choose the wrong medical plan or failed to save or both. In either case it's her fault not the Insurance Company or the govt's.

That is exactly what I was going to say, Rebel.  They scream for Medicare for all, all the time.  Medicare is not a panacea, with substantial deductibles and co-pays that noone ever talks about.  It would do very little to help anyone just above the Medicaid eligibility limit.  Makes my teeth itch when people represent it so horrificly.

Hmmm....

MY friend works for UT, in the Dept of Social Work. She has great health insurance.

Yep, so great, that last July when it was renewed, she, her husband and her son, all had to go in for checkups and fill out pages of health care info...in order to STAY insured.

Then her monthly payments increased $150 per month, her deductible went up, and she has to pay more out of pocket.

She just loves Obamacare.

NOT.

It's worse than that, Reb.  Remember, Proud2BDUmbass is a public skrewl teacher.  Which means, that any former/retired "coworker" of hers was also a public skrewl teacher, and as such, had the Cadillac of pension and health care plans - paid for by the generous tasxpayers of that particular district - until the day she dies.  Then they have their Medicare ON TOP OF all of that.

While I don't know ANYBODY who would start crying in front of someone she hasn't see for a few years, she's got to be the worst money manager in the world. Next time you might want to come up with a story that isn't debunked by a simple google search.

According to to the Preretirement Guide, in addition to whatever IRA's 401k's or whatever they participated in are calculated at whatever your salary is (a person who's a career teacher would be making at least $70,000) X 1.75% X 30. In addition, according to the Social Security website, she's also going to get money from them even if she never paid into the system (KS does take SS out of employees' salary).
Quote
If your pension is from work where you paid Social Security taxes, it will not affect the amount of your Social Security benefit. However, if any part of your pension is from work where you did not pay Social Security taxes, it could affect the amount of your Social Security benefit.

Now as for medical insurance, we'll just figure she's on Medicare since most retirees are. Here is information on Medicare for state employees. Depending on which option you choose your yearly out of pocket expenses will be anywhere from $1000 to $3000 a year. But in the case of government employees it gets better. See, they have a plan called Kansas Senior Plan C. This plan picks up ALL the expenses (deductibles, daily hospital co pay costs, care facility co pays, etc), that aren't covered with the regular Medicare policies. But wait, it gets even better. If you'd rather not have Senior Plan C (there is a premium that's about $180 a month) the the state of KS offers two Medicare advantage plans that have small co pays on SOME services.

Now, because she has a pension, SS and (if she was smart) a pretax retirement plan since the state puts in matching funds once you are fully vested, there's no reason she couldn't have adequate insurance or pay for whatever medical expenses aren't covered.

You Lie!

So in between tears she happened to mention she was volunteering for the 0bama campaign because she's upset about a government insurance plan she'll never have to participate in because she has better insurance (thanks to the teachers' union for sucking the citizens dry) through her government job. Yeah, if I was struggling with an illness, the first thing I'd do is get all upset about something that will never affect me.

Well, you dumb bitch, since even liberal polling firms show 60-75% of the public DOES NOT want 0bamacare and want it to be repealed that you would run into anyone who cares whether Republicans are "attacking" a program the country doesn't want anyway is pretty miraculous.

10. This just BOILS MY BLOOD...the GOP needs to be DESTROYED!!

I don't friggin' care anymore.... the republican Party is NOT a political party by ANY reasonable definition! It resembles Nazi brownshirts, but with FAR more people to rile in this hate.

This country was founded upon the rights of people to form multiple political parties, but right now the only reason we have two main "parties" is because one of the parties, the GOP, has COMPLETELY OBLITERATED their political leanings, and have turned into the most DESPOTIC ORGANIZATION in world history!

Keep in mind, if we didn't have to worry about the despotic nature of the republican Party, we would have SEVERAL different parties, from the Peace and Freedom, the Democratic, Peace and Freedom, Green, and the various socialist and other progressive parties that would ensure a rich and vigorous debate on global policies.

To that end, we MUST treat the GOP as we would ANY enemy of our people!

We MUST treat the GOP, AND their controllers, JUST like enemy combatants...actually, worse, since they are backed by state laws regarding "political affiliations."

It is getting to the point wherhe non-violent action isn't going to be enough, and it SCARES me in knowing that I'm not the only one thinking that. But... taking out the GOP any way possible must be done in order to save this planet and humanity.

And just to point out two phrases in Ann's bouncy:

She said she was so grateful that Obama had tried to do SOMETHING

Sure it wasn't enough and the answer is definitely universal health care, but at least Obama tried to do something.

That's a recurring theme among the libs, isn't it.  Do something, even if it's stupid or destructive.  At least you tried.  At least your intentions were good.  Never mind if it was a bad plan, lunatic reasoning, willful ignorance of the law of unintended consequences, or against the consent of the governed.  Have a trophy!

That word "grateful" is sticking in my craw.  You demokrats are happy with crumbs tossed your way by the elite, because you think those crumbs are free, and you like Nanny O tucking you into bed at night.

This is a bouncy, and not a good one either. It falls flat, thus, zero bongs.

45. My sister-in-law, yesterday, did a 180 on "Obamacare"

View profile
She's always been against AHA. She and her husband are rabid tea baggers, calling Obama a "socialist, communist, marxist, maoist" etc. since day one. Yesterday during a family Easter get together, Her 21 year old son who recently got married and is self-employed, announced that his new bride was pregnant. Her son and daughter-in-law's heath insurance are covered under the Obama health care for children to age 26 provision. During a discussion about the financial strain that the new baby was going to put her son and daughter-in-law, she said that if they repeal Obama care, the kids were going to be "screwed". I sarcastically told her that if they do, "they can always go to the emergency room, because we got the best health care in the world". She just gave me mean stare and continued on her rant, totally oblivious to the fact that she gave me the same argument, a few hers ago, during the health care debate. That being said, I don't think she and her husband will vote for Obama, but I do think that they will sit this one out.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
