tpsbmam Time to admit DU is the wrong forum for me and move on..... This isn't a hating DU post or a leaving DU post, it'a a realization that DU just isn't the place for me. Ah well, hopefully I'll find one or two good replacements.These last 4 posts of mine, all of which I think are pretty important topics, sank like they had Limbaugh-sized weights attached to them. I clearly don't know what interests DU....or I don't have the right user name. Perhaps if I renamed myself kpete2?<snipped>
digonswine3. I suggest patience-I have had OP's that I thought would light up the boards--only to see that no one cared. And THEN--someone with a more recognizable name would say the same thing and get tons of responses. This has happened NUMEROUS times to me. But SO WHAT? Even if they did not respond to me, they DID respond. I got an idea of the general feeling about things I was wondering about.I feel like I need to put in my time. It's not right, but it is the way people work.
tpsbmam34. I've had that happen tons of time on the old and new DU. It irks me a little but ultimately, I havethe same reaction -- it's getting noticed & shared, which is what's important.

I'm going to try very hard not to sound rude here,but maybe - maybe - you're letting your ego get in the way a bit?You're upset because people don't respond to your posts - but do they read them (i.e., do you get more 'views')? A quick scan of the posts you linked seems to suggest that they do.If people are reading them, then aren't you fulfilling the purpose of making the post, which by your own admission is to share and disseminate what you believe is important information?If the issue is about getting 'recs', then it seems like the problem is not that DUers are uninterested or have 'limited track minds'. The problem is that you're not getting the recognition that you seem to feel equals interest.This is a big board, with a lot of people on it. Cantankerous, easy to reply to posts are always going to attract more responses, because DU, like everywhere else (except, perhaps, a monastery or similar contemplative place) is in a hurry most of the time. Posts that require more reading and more thoughtfulness may not get many responses, simply because the people reading them are doing what you want them to do - digesting the information. Chances are that posts like yours come up in RL conversations ("I read an article the other day that will curl your hair . . ." ) much, much more than a post that elicits 100 K&R responses.Perhaps you should consider posting in some of the more specific fora on DU - people who have similar interests are probably more likely to see and respond - GD moves so fast that even very important posts can get lost in the shuffle.I apologize if I sound rude or condescending; it really isn't my feeling or intent. You sound very sincere in your frustration and I genuinely hope you find a resolution that doesn't drive you away from DU.
tpsbmam35. Except with lots of views, no recs and no commentsposts sink like stones. They stay visible for a very short space of time. I do kick my own posts a couple of times, but it gets ridiculous after a while.I personally consider those general discussion items. Perhaps I should try good reads, maybe that would make a difference.You're not rude, just honest. I like that.
