Scott Walker recall election set for June 5
« on: March 31, 2012, 12:05:55 AM »

Scott Walker, the embattled first-term Republican governor of Wisconsin, will face a recall election on June 5, the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) ruled Friday. Walker's Lieutenant Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, will also face a recall.

The board voted 5-0 in favor of a holding a recall election after finding that the recall ballots for both candidates garnered a sufficient number of valid signatures to proceed.

More than 900,900 valid signatures were collected in a petition to recall Walker, and more than 800,000 valid signatures were collected in a petition to recall Kleefisch. Only 540,208 signatures were required.

How do they know the signatures were valid if they weren't required to verify them?

Federal court strikes down parts of union law

The court sided with state officials in upholding limitations on what can be bargained, but found the two other provisions violated the union members' equal protection and First Amendment rights, considering that the same rules did not apply to unions for public safety workers such as police and firefighters.
Journal Sentinel Online

I guess I'm having trouble reading the article, but I don't see what the two provisions are.

One was the state being the middle man for the unions and collecting union dues.

The other one had to do with the unions recertifying every year.

And another thing....When did we become a 'mail it in' country?  Use to be you had to be on your death bed to get an absentee ballot in most states.  Now it is kind of like, 'meh, I have a tee time that day'.  And if that isn't a system ripe for voter fraud, I don't know what is.  I can see military voting and those who are literally at deaths door, but the rest of the crap has got to cease.  When you talk about voter fraud here is a prime example of the dems best weapon.

Well, if the good citizens of the State of Wisconsin don't see fit to continue to employ Mr. Walker, then there may be an opening in an office near the Potomic River that he can use.  ::)

The citizen's voted Walker in.  If they no longer thought he was doing a good job, they could have waited until the next general election, not throw tantrums and have a recall.  Wisconsin is full of the biggest babies.  I can speak about that truthfully since I unfortunately lived there, but I was smart and moved far, far away.

How do they know the signatures were valid if they weren't required to verify them?

And among those signatures are 25 reporters from Gannett News Service...who own the newspapers in Wisconsin that have been covering this story...and IIRC 20 state court judges.

Remember when Gannett was a big bad Republican propaganda organ because it planned to air Stolen Valor back around 2004?

Yeah their tv side isn't as Liberal as their print side.  Their print side owns USA Today...and sadly...they own all of the Military Times publications.

With the price tag that comes with holding an election, you'd think that would have been a top priority. ...but we're talking about liberals here.

The way I understand it is that they wouldn't both be able to get Wisconsin's electoral votes.

I live near Green Bay, which is a big union town due to the paper mills, but have been gratified lately by the volume of "I Stand With Walker" signs cropping up everywhere, in places where you wouldn't really expect to be conservative havens.  Prior to the past couple of weeks, all you saw were "Recall Walker" signs.

The GOP was just keeping their powder dry until they had a target to shoot at apparently.

If the anti-Walker crowd actually prevails, that's when I'll seriously have to consider leaving the Badger State, because it will be a vote for fiduciary suicide.  Since I'm a producer, not a moocher, that means I'd be even more of a target for the Mad-Town Tax-Anything-That-Works crowd than I am now.  Texas looks better every passing day.

So, if Walker doesn't win, how long must people wait before they can start the recall process on the guy that does win?  After all, it seems that elections mean nothing in this state. If you don't like the results of an election, you just recall them so you can have another election and cheat a little harder and get the guy you want in office, right?

Since there will always be people who want someone other than the winner to be in office, couldn't the state could be in a constant state of recall?
